This photograph is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful images I have ever taken.
Not because it is perfect, but because it is real.
As someone who has battled mental health struggles and carries a past marked by self-harm, this image means more to me than words will ever fully explain. It is proof that healing is possible. That even after the darkest moments, life can still become something soft, meaningful, and beautiful.
The tattoo reads, “I’ll be better than I was,” and I think that is all any of us can truly strive for. Not perfection. Not pretending life is easy. Just growth. Just choosing, every single day, to keep going and become a little better than the version of ourselves that existed yesterday.
Life is hard. Sometimes simply surviving feels exhausting. But then there are moments like this — tiny hands reaching for yours, smiles filled with pure love, eyes that remind you that you matter here. Those moments make every painful chapter worth surviving.
This photo holds so much joy, pride, healing, and love for me. It reminds me how far I’ve come, and it reminds me why I stayed.
If this image does anything, I hope it helps someone else see that there is still beauty waiting for them too.
