The Power of Primes

I made it my goal to shoot both of these gymnastics meets using only prime lenses. Prime lenses don’t zoom but have the benefit of creating sharper images with more blurry backgrounds compared to zoom lenses.

I really enjoyed this challenge as it forced me to be more purposeful with where I was standing and fill the frames without zooming. The 50mm lens was so versatile for this sport that I think I could’ve gotten away with having it as my only lens.

These photos from the gymnastics meets on 2/14/26 and 2/15/26 were shot using only the 50mm and 135mm (prime lenses).

From Camera Roll to the U.S. Capitol 📸

After taking runner up in Nebraska for the Congressional Art Competition, my photo was chosen to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol! It was such an honor to have my photo displayed in the Capitol and it was great to walk around and see everyone else’s photos from different states.

I’d like to give a huge thank you to Mike Flood and his staff for giving my family and I a private tour of the Capitol. The view from the Speaker’s Balcony was incredible (slide 4).
