I arrived at Anglin Pier before first light, focused on capturing the rising sun aligned with the pier and a lone fisherman framed against the horizon. The ocean was unusually still that morning, the surface barely moving, reflecting the faint early light like glass. The fisherman remained steady, casting into the quiet ocean, his silhouette subtle against the dim glow.
Then, the horizon opened. The sun broke through a narrow gap in the clouds. The calm surface of the ocean caught the light instantly, shimmering gold across the water. The pier drew the eye straight into the frame, and the fisherman stood in perfect silhouette, anchored against the brilliance of the rising sun.
The waves, the light, and the subject all came together to capture the start of a new day. For me, this image represents that quiet beginning, when everything is still, and the possibilities of the day are just starting to take shape.

I arrived at Anglin Pier before first light, focused on capturing the rising sun aligned with the unique silhouette of the pier. A lone fisherman stood in the surf, completing the picture. The ocean was unusually still that morning, the surface barely moving, reflecting the faint early light like glass. The fisherman remained steady, casting into the quiet ocean, his silhouette subtle against the dim glow.

While driving across the endless plains of North Dakota, I dreamt of capturing the raw power of a thunderstorm rolling across open land with nothing but sky and road stretching into the horizon. For hours, I drove through emptiness, watching the sky build into something massive and unpredictable.
The light dropped, the clouds thickened, and the road ahead began to disappear into a wall of rain. Winds pushed against my car, and the sky turned into a towering force that felt almost too large to capture. Timing was everything. Too early, and the scene lacked intensity. Too late, and the storm would consume everything in darkness.
Then, in an instant, a break formed in the cloud. The sun forced its way through, sending sharp beams of light slicing across the storm. The contrast was unreal: darkness and brilliance colliding over the open prairie. I positioned myself quickly, knowing this window would last only seconds. That moment is what you see here.
Out on that road, surrounded by nothing but sky and weather, I was reminded why I chase these scenes. Even in the heaviest storms, there is always a break, always a way through. This image carries that exact feeling—the kind that reminds us we can keep moving forward, no matter how intense the storm becomes.

While driving across the endless plains of North Dakota, I dreamt of capturing the raw power of a thunderstorm rolling across open land with nothing but sky and road stretching into the horizon. For hours, I drove through emptiness, watching the sky build into something massive and unpredictable.

I set out to capture the exact moment when sunlight would pierce through a towering thunderstorm. The sky was already shifting when I arrived. Layers of dense clouds folded into one another, growing darker and heavier by the minute. The wind picked up, pushing against me, and the distant rumble of thunder warned me that more stormy weather lay in wait.
The light kept disappearing behind thickening clouds. For a while, it seemed the sky would close completely, sealing off any chance of that breakthrough moment. The collision of darkness and light I was chasing felt out of reach as the storm intensified. Rain threatened, the horizon blurred, and everything became unpredictable.
Then, in a sudden shift, the clouds opened just enough. A powerful burst of light cut through the storm, revealing a field of white clouds across the sky. The dark clouds didn’t vanish—they swirled and churned and moved off center stage.
In that moment, I captured exactly what I came for: the raw contrast of light breaking through darkness. It’s a reminder I carry with me—that even in the heaviest storms, there’s always a ray of light and hope pushing through.

I headed out very early that morning with visions of capturing the Cleveland skyline at blue hour. I chose a spot where the majestic Terminal Tower and Key Tower rise against the awakening sky, mirrored in the smooth Cuyahoga River with the Detroit-Superior Bridge framing the scene perfectly. Challenges hit hard—a sudden downpour soaked my equipment, causing my camera lens to fog up completely and nearly short-circuiting my setup in a frantic scramble to protect it from the relentless rain. I adapted quickly, wiping and recalibrating under cover while timing my shots between bursts, my determination unyielding. Suddenly, the clouds parted just enough for that ethereal blue and gold hue to bathe the city, allowing me to seize this image of Cleveland's dynamic skyline. I rose before dawn with a clear vision: capture the downtown Cleveland skyline and a sweeping view of Lake Erie from Edgewater Park while the sun rose in the sky. However, the forecast shifted, a thick band of clouds rolled in from the lake, and my lens began to fog in the humid air. My tripod foot slipped on the wet grass at on the hillside, leaving me scrambling for a stable frame while the horizon threatened to remain locked in gray. Then, the clouds vanished and golden light spilled across the lake, silhouetting the downtown skyline and glimmering gold on the calm waters of Lake Erie. I clicked rapidly, capturing the light as it crowned the towers and kissed the park’s shoreline.
Standing there, I thought about how Cleveland has grown and prospered since the days when I grew up there. This image felt like a visual promise: a new day dawning in the city’s ongoing story. This frame highlights both the fragile hush of morning and the confident pulse of an evolving city.

Thank you to the buyer from Plantation, Florida who purchased this 24X60 three panel canvas of the "San Francisco Bay Bridge Sunrise". I captured this image from Pier 7, awakening at 4 a.m. so that I would not miss the moment when the sun rose over Treasure Island, illuminating the San Francisco Bay Bridge in its glow. Run, Forrest, Run! The image of Forrest Gump running up Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina is etched into moviegoers minds ever since this Academy Award winning film debuted in 1993. When I reached the famous overlook in western North Carolina, I knew what I wanted — the winding mountain road framed by autumn’s brightest colors. But as I set up, cars kept pulling into the scene, the light shifted, and I worried the timing was slipping away. I nearly gave up, thinking I’d have to leave without the shot I had imagined.
Then, for just a moment, everything aligned. The road curved like a ribbon through the fiery reds and oranges, the hills faded into soft blue layers in the distance, and the sky opened wide above. I lifted my camera and pressed the shutter, capturing the mountain road exactly as I had envisioned — alive with the full force of fall.
