Around here, coal isn't just a rock pulled from the mountains. It's part of our history, our heritage, and the hardworking spirit of Eastern Kentucky!

For generations, coal has helped power our homes, businesses, schools, and communities. But here in Eastern Kentucky, coal has meant something even bigger. It's put food on family tables, provided jobs for generations, and helped build the communities we call home.
⚒️ A LITTLE COAL COUNTRY HISTORY!
Kentucky's coal industry dates back more than 200 years, but it was the expansion of railroads in the late 1800s and early 1900s that helped transform Eastern Kentucky into one of America's major coal-producing regions.
And here's something interesting! Before coal reaches a power plant, it often passes through a preparation plant like this one, where it's cleaned and separated from unwanted rock and other materials.
Coal may not power as much of America as it once did, but its contribution to our nation's history and Eastern Kentucky's heritage is undeniable.
