DUBOIS -- Kohen Pantuso and the Bradford Minor Baseball All-Stars held Potter-McKean to just two hits in a 15-1, four-inning rout at sunny Heindl Field on Sunday, July 2.
The teams had been dodging raindrops since the originally scheduled gametime of 4 p.m. Saturday at Scott Fields in Derrick City. The game was moved to 4:30 p.m. at Custer City only to be washed out there as well. Trying for a 6 p.m. tilt Sunday at Pitt-Bradford, the weather refused to cooperate and sent the squads to the Heindl turf in DuBois.
Bradford capitalized on three P-M errors to hang up six runs in the top of the first inning, including a bases-clearing, three-run line drive to right field by Andrew Wright Jr.
Pantuso and the Bradford defense standing tall behind him needed just five pitches to end the first. Shortstop Eli Haynoski fielded a Kroy Bates hit, tapped second and was awarded the third out at first on runner interference.
Bradford scored three more in the top of the second as Will Pantuso (single), Eli Haynoski (single) and Maddon Splain (hit by pitch) all crossed home.
Potter-McKean scored its only run in the bottom of the second when Eli Dynda rapped an RBI-triple to plate Brody Andrews.
Scoreless in the third, Bradford posted six more in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Caleb Weart smashed a double to score Splain and crossed home on a groundout from Jameis Furlong. Mason Haynoski's bases-loaded walk scored Kohen Pantuso and Wright walked to send Magnus Miller home. Ryan Johnson then belted a two-run single to center that scored Mason Haynoski and Griffin Atteberry.
Wright drove in three on the day, while Weart, Furlong and Johnson all contributed two RBI. Splain scored three times, while Kohen Pantuso, Miller, Mason Haynoski and Atteberry each posted a pair of runs. Weart's double was Bradford's only extra-base knock.
On the mound, Pantuso started and threw three and one-third innings, scattering two hits, walking only two and whiffing one. Eli Haynoski (one strikeout) and Wright pitched briefly in relief.
Evan McCleaft accounted for Potter-McKean's only other hit, a single in the fourth. McCleaft, Ian Dynda, Brody Andrews, Jase Roeske and Carson Tubbs all pitched for Potter-McKean, combining to strike out seven.
Bradford (2-0) travels to take on St. Marys (2-0) at 6 p.m. today (July 5).
