What reverence would view it with?
I imagine,
We would decorate it with flowers.
Surround it with beautiful song.
Line the pathway with prayers and tears.

Remember that next time
Your brain or society,
tries to tell you
That you’re “just” a mother.

Your body brings forth life and sustains it.
Without mothers there is nothing.
You shape how the next generation
Tends to this world.
You shape how they see
All there is to see and know here.

Motherhood is a sacred calling.

The timing was perfect.

He arrived just before the sun.
Just before big brother and sister woke up.
As thunderstorms rolled through the world around us.
Right when Mama thought she couldn’t do it anymore.
Just as Dad brewed a pot of coffee.

No other clients of mine were birthing.
Yet somehow, 385,000 other people will share his birthday.

Forty-one weeks on the dot.
Still covered in vernix.

Moments like this make me question due dates altogether.

How can we put an exact date on something that unfolds in perfect, divine timing?

As I drove home through the quiet little country towns, I found myself whispering thank you—to everything above—for the perfect timing of this birth.

And somehow, I made it home in time to take my own daughter to school.

Thank you to this family for trusting us with such a sacred morning.
