Roger Haston sent me an email, and I’d like to share the following commentary he had associated with the attached post:

“Very nice. A couple of things to consider:

On guns: there are strict rules about obtaining a gun of any type. You must be interviewed by the police. The police will interview your friends and neighbors. You must prove you have a safe place safe to store it. And despite all of that, New Zealand has a reasonably high rate of gun ownership. All that checking has not prevented the right people from obtaining weapons.

One other super fascinating difference is the concept of co-governance with Maori. This might be way too hard to explain in your blog, but it is probably something that has created the most equitable treatment of indigenous people in the world.”

Both points reinforce that the country’s culture values community and fairness above all else, while still allowing people to have plenty of individual rights, too.

I’m pleased to announce that I’ll have three pieces on display at the AiM Gallery, Artists in Middleburg, and I’ll be there for an Opening Reception this Saturday, January 18th from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon. Come visit me and many other excellent artists at 102 W. Washington Street in Middleburg.

These are the pieces which will be available for purchase. They are all canvas prints in floating frames. The smallest is a single photograph called Spanish Sunrise, the canvas area being 12x18”. The larger pieces are multiple exposure pieces, 16x24” (the frames add less than 2” to height and width). The top piece is entitled Good Tidings, and lower left is The Color Orange.

AiM is a non-profit, and some of the proceeds support AiM’s educational programs. If you’d like to make yourself happy AND do good for others at the same time, please stop by!
