These steps were built in 1845 as exterior house steps of the Peter Mott House. In 1870 the house underwent renovations which moved these steps into the house interior. The Peter Mott House was a Lawnside, NJ stop on the Underground Railroad. All UGRR routes in NJ came through Lawnside.
