These steps were built in 1845 as exterior house steps of the Peter Mott House. In 1870 the house underwent renovations which moved these steps into the house interior. The Peter Mott House was a Lawnside, NJ stop on the Underground Railroad. All UGRR routes in NJ came through Lawnside.

The Lawnside Scholarship Club celebrated its "50th Salute to Graduating Seniors" recently. The Club was established in 1945 with a goal to help Lawnside high school graduating seniors obtain post-secondary education. This over $15,000 was presented to nearly 20 Lawnside students achieving high GPA's as well as various academic and athletic talents.
