Multiplexer

Multiplexer Multiplexer is a curatorial project by David Sanchez Burr

Multiplexer was an art space Downtown in the City of Las Vegas. The exhibits focused on the potential of video as a medium, and away from the over explored, web-based sensationalism, corporate media and Hollywood film industry. The space exhibits work that crosses the threshold from visual language to relevant and poignant explorations in a wide variety of subjects and motifs. Multiplexer is owned and curated by David Sanchez Burr. David has been curating exhibits sporadically since 1993, and this will be his first full time curatorial effort. He received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MFA from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His experience includes Graduate Programs Manager at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1999 to 2006 and has worked in the professional video software industry at Softron Media Services for the past two years. David has also exhibited internationally and has resided in Las Vegas since 2006.

Multiplexer: States of Democracy
Open Call For Video Art
Lake Forest College Sonnenschein Gallery
Submission Deadline: December 8, 2019

Exhibit Dates January 23 to February 20, 2020

The Lake Forest College Sonnenschein Gallery is seeking artists whose practice is influenced by and exhibits a bearing on the state of democracy in the United States.

Crucial to the success of democracy stand the challenges of equal representation, justice and human rights. Progress towards these goals can be fragile and recent election cycles have created salient evidence that deep regressions in democratic systems are warnings we must take seriously.

Fluctuating success in securing long standing progress imply that democracy is not simply practiced at the ballot box it is also a system needing regular maintenance, improvement and persistent engagement. Driven to explore the states of democracy, poignant artworks are effective vehicles through which we encourage discourse and provide rare opportunities to critique and examine its intricacies. Artist engaged in such discourse and critique are encouraged to submit works in video for consideration.

This exhibition is part of a long term project called Multiplexer. Multiplexer started in 2013 as a micro-gallery in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada by David Sanchez Burr. Although its run was short and Multiplexer has remained mostly dormant over the past few years, this curatorial opportunity has allowed for its resurrection. For more information about Multiplexer please visit: https://multiplexerspace.wordpress.com

David Sanchez Burr is an Artist and Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Expanded Media at Lake Forest College in Illinois.

“Capturing this audio was an unplanned treat,” Bruce Banerdt, of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a press release. “But one of the things [the InSight mission] is dedicated to is measuring motion on Mars, and naturally that includes motion caused by sound waves.”
~By Dan Broadbent | December 7, 2018

From the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory - Education YouTube upload:
Listen to Martian wind blow across NASA’s InSight lander. The spacecraft’s seismometer and air pressure sensor picked up vibrations from 10-15 mph (16-24 kph) winds as they blew across Mars’ Elysium Planitia on Dec. 1, 2018.

APOD: 2016 November 14 - Supermoon and Space Station

Image Credit & Copyright: Kris Smith

What are those specks in front of the Moon? They are silhouettes of the International Space Station (ISS). Using careful planning and split-second timing, a meticulous lunar photographer captured ten images of the ISS passing in front of last month's full moon. But this wasn't just any full moon -- this was the first of the three consecutive 2016 supermoons. A supermoon is a full moon that appears a few percent larger and brighter than most other full moons. The featured image sequence was captured near Dallas, Texas. Occurring today is the second supermoon of this series, a full moon that is the biggest and brightest not only of the year, but of any year since 1948. To see today's super-supermoon yourself, just go outside at night and look up. The third supermoon of this year's series will occur in mid-December.

The weather Chalk Board

As many of you have already heard, Chicago lost one of its own with the passing of Harry Volkman. Our sincere condolences go out to the Volkman family. In tribute, we present a short 15 minute presentation beginning with a 1967 clip from a WMAQ-TV special which Harry hosted. Next a 1998 tribute to Harry produced by his colleagues as he was presented with the prestigious Silver Circle Award. And closing, Harry's last regularly scheduled weather report from 2004. Thanks Harry! Give 'em a good whooosh!

LLCD Bolden Video to the Moon and Back

Shooting a laser at the moon resulting in an HD transmission back to earth. I would have preferred if they had used Ground Control to Major Tom by Bowie which would have been truly over the top, alas the NASA has very few artists in their midsts. I guess it brings the point home the interplanetarynet is in HD.

The Lunar Laser Communications Demonstration mission proved it can send and receive high definition video with a message from NASA Administrator Charlie Bold...
