Why do I make some images B&W?
1. To hide a coloring or lighting "mistake." Yup! So these kinds of mistakes don't really happen in my portrait work, but they do happen a lot in my day to day photography of my own little ones. I also had a very low light birth situation a few years ago and, let's just say, B&W hides a lot π
2. To focus on a specific detail. So this image is obvious - our detail to focus on is that cute, tiny foot. But there are other details to focus on - a texture, an emotional connection, etc - and color can distract from that.
So it's not an exact science. A lot of it is just how I feel about an image. β€οΈ
