“[We] were absolutely delighted with Townsley Fine Art. They provided a true concierge service from start to finish. From calling us several days ahead of our appointment to discussing preparation and wardrobe selections, to the delivery of the finished product… The only difficult part was narrowing down which portraits to choose because everyone looked great in every shot. These portraits are truly a work of art and will be cherished for years to come.”

How much for family photos
Contest winner review: I really wanted to share my experience as I know I value other reviews very much. I was one of the contest winners. First off, the $1000 credit that you get is only kind of a credit. Basically the contest wins you a photo session and a 11×14 print (not wall hanging). (You also have to put down a deposit over the phone to reserve your spot. Understandable and fair, just want to pass that along.) Obviously these contests are to get people to buy more but just know that they are expensive. If you do buy more, then they will put the $1000 towards a package. The package they were trying to sell me was $4990 which is a little funny considering part of their speech on the phone and in the owners video is "typically clients spend an additional $500-1500" but I wasnt presented with anything near that price range . Let me go back a little and walk you through my experience. From the time I was contacted to be notfied that I won, I got a LOT of calls, texts and emails. Although I can understand and appreciate wanting to give attention to their customer, it was a little too much. 1 confirmation email is just fine. When we got there, we rang the bell and someone came an unlocked the door and greeted us. She was lovely. Another lady came in and said a quick hi and that we could use a room to finish getting my baby dressed. We didn't see anyone else there and the vibe I got was that feeling when you arrive to a store right at opening time and the employees aren't quite ready to open. Not saying they weren't ready but just trying to convey that it wasnt this warm "hey! Come on in, meet the photographer, let's chat so we can talk about what pictures you want". After she was dressed, they brought us into the studio. Turns out the lady that told us we could use the room was the photographer (and I think the owner's wife by a picture they have on a wall, just a side note, not relevant). I say it like this because I do feel like the photographer should have a conversation beforehand yet I didnt even know who she was. I have a strong feeling that they have a set number of poses because we were whizzed through different poses meaning there didnt seem to be any poses tailored to our family. The reason why I mentioned them not talking to me when I got there about what poses I might want is because when we were taking pics, I asked if we could do one of just the girls. The photographer said she wanted to do solos first and kind of brushed off duo shots because sure enough after solo shots it was a quick last family pose and we were done. Now my strong, strong hunch is that they wanted to do solo shots to create more separate pics that I would want to buy. Meaning if I wanted a pic of just my kids, I would have to get 2 as opposed to 1 picture with both of them in it. Because had we done that shot with just the girls, i would've chosen that as opposed the family shots as i wasn't really satisfied with those. Anyway, after the shoot they bring you into the waiting room (the assistant did offer drinks) and not too long after, someone came and got us to show us the pictures. Before I was shown the pictures, I was repeatedly reminded to "keep in mind what kind of memories you want to have " and "they won't stay this age for long". He then turned on sappy music, to show me the pics with a projector on the wall. I had been honest on the phone the 3 times I answered the phone when they called that I wouldn't be able to afford anything other than what they were offering and said it again when shown the pictures. I asked if I could get prices first because I didn't want to waste his time or mine having me fall in love with pictures/sizes that I simply couldn't afford. He skirted around giving me prices and kept trying to redirect me to "where do you see this hanging in your home?" and trying to get me to fall in love with what he was offering. I couldn't have said enough that I simply could not afford what he was offering or close to that to the point where I wanted to be like "if i show you my bank account will you stop trying to convince me?" I even explained that I needed to be responsible as a single parent and that I couldn't spend thousands of dollars on pictures but then not have food on the table for my girls. I really wish that would've been enough for him to stop there because no one likes being broke, no one likes having to explain that you're broke , and I especially don't like having to justify why I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars. When he finally got that I was only going to get the 11×14 they were offering as the contest prize, the tone changed quickly to that "ok great thank you for coming". Because before, he was telling me how they could edit the pictures this way and that and fix this and that and swap things but when he knew I really was only going to get the 11×14 print, it was "well we cant edit anything on those so it will be as is". So $1000 gets you ONE print, without editing. They were all very nice, but I think it's fair for me to pass on to future contest winners that their prices are astronomical. Their work IS beautiful, don't get me wrong, just know they charge a LOT. Even if it may seem like it, please do NOT take this as I'm bashing the studio. I just know that I would've wanted to read more in depth reviews to make my decision. The other reviews weren't wrong, they ARE nice, the studio IS nice, their work IS great but at least for me, that was a minor part of the whole experience.
So exciting I guess I won received a phone call , email and gift certificate in the mail thank you so much
I won today. So excited haven't had family pics in a very long time and can't wait. Thank you Townsley Portraits.
Very unprofessional. How can someone win a contest and you blow them off? I hope you make it right!!!
Sadly this is a SCAM. I personally know two people who "won", yet never got their "refundable $150 deposit" back and then were quoted over $1,000 additional once their photos were taken. One girl paid $600+ and the owner "promised to send the photos today", well that was 5 days ago. I'm sure the owner will delete my comment once he sees it, but as a business owner myself, I know I can use his attempt to silence me to my advantage. Luckily, my friend was able to initiate a dispute with her bank for this guys scandalous bait and switch tactics, but we will be leaving reviews on yelp, the bbb, google, and in the 10,000 member mom group I am the admin for. Shame on you for targeting MOMS in particular for something so heartfelt as family photos, only to switch the terms up later and have the audacity to claim "people are usually soo happy, they spend up to $3,000 more once they see how nice their pictures are!" Be advised ladies - you're not winning anything here but a waste of your time and faith in humanity. He upsells you, pressures you, tells you that "you have to make a decision now, you cannot decide later" and then drags his feet on sending the pics once you do pay! Literally don't waste your time or money here.
I just got the letter that we won! I can't believe it. I will be calling asap for our session. Thank you so much!!
How much for a family of 6 ?
We had a great visit with Stuart Townsley At Townsley Portraits. Stuart is a real honest to good professional and knows his art well. A nano-perfectionist to the smallest details, like how your pinky on your hand should be aligned with the ring finger to just give one literally small example. The tilt of the head, the posture are just a few more examples of how Stuart will quickly put you and your family in the proper position for beautiful, yet natural looking portraits. You’ll then be able sit comfortably and review all the pictures and chose your favorites. Stuart even got our daughter involved in the picture taking allowing her some time behind the camera, which she really enjoyed. Stuart and his wife/assistant provided a comfortable and relaxed visit and we can’t wait to receive or family portraits.
This place is amazing! His work is honestly priceless! A great investment ❤️
