She hammered grass against her skin
to hide the darkness trapped within
A garden grown so none would see
the tangled roots of her true being

The blooms were bright, the silence deep
a mask she wore so she could keep
their judgment soft, their gaze away
while pieces of her wilted gray

their silence colder than the blame

Yet still she stood, no scream, no plea
just ash and ember in her stare

I made this sketch a couple years ago after I got into a little tiff with my boss. It was the way they looked at me, the way they spewed their words at me with so much hate and disgust, the way they made me feel so stupid over something so insignificant. It completely shocked me and in that moment I truly felt like they were a fireball heading right towards me and all I could do was stare.

What you need is rarely comfortable
like the heart that sleeps inside the rock
rough edges guarding something holy
beauty born from pressure and dark

You learn that meaning hides in weight
that love is not always soft or easy
Even stone, when broken open
can gleam with amethyst light
