Sharing:

Rageful, hateful, endlessly dark and melancholic while vibrant rays glisten across lightly, mightily, unforgiviningly. Repeat, play, rage, hammer-on, solo, drums, beat, on and on, here we go again. Nail bitters, all nighters, morning risers, dissipating feelings, numb, bitter, cold. Oppressive, impressive, holy, enlightened, detained, remains, insane, complain, ingrain, unchained. Release. Let go, here we go. Time to begin again.

Fresh.

Breathe, sigh, relief.

Inhale, exhale.

Bravo, you made it, Kid.

8 Years:

Been posting all my travels so long I forget my home is a place of wonder too.

The awesomeness of Hawaii is that in a few different turns of your normal day you can be on volcanoes, in valleys, jungles, and more. Tourist sectors and suburbs quickly turn to dirt roads or no roads leaving Hawaii just as the ancients knew it.

I have these simple moments in the islands when I’m alone. I can hear the island speak back to me. The power of Hawaii resonates not in words conveyed but in feelings the land and me experience together, of each other. Connecting to a ray of sunshine, a passing shower, the break of the ocean, or a simple rustling of leaves builds a romance of being alive. It’s magical.

Do you have these feelings?

Sweet Nuthin’:

If you’ve ever read Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” then you will know Dean’s need to frantically chase new destinations. Living on the road gives us a gnawing like you need to be somewhere else all the time faster, quicker, today, yesterday even. Its times like these though that teach you about how to truly understand life and appreciate it by doing the opposite.

Travel isn’t about being comforted by what you know, it’s learning to be comforted with not knowing. To learn life from someone else’s point of view, to find yourself stuck in odd places and figure a way out, to find nuances in parts of life you thought mundane, these are the jewels of travel.

What’s funny is that we believe our best stories will come from epic scenes like concerts or outdoor excursions. We even pay for these experiences! But what is discovered is that half the time the most remembered experiences are often the most fleeting: a moment of confused orders in a coffee shop, getting squeezed on a bus with a bunch of natives, asking for directions from a total stranger, a friendly exchange with a local shop keeper, missing your train, running across a live band, meeting someone completely unknown and be friends 5 minutes later, or maybe even more. This is the travel magic we seek.

There’s a lot of those in-between moments in these photos. I walk the streets and mountains to find what there is to be seen. I want photos that encapsulate a feeling. I can’t rush because you never know what you will run into. The more life tries to speed up, the more I need to slow it down, and when life seems boring and rigid, it’s ripe for the time to find something beautiful and fascinating. One just has to stop long enough to smell the roses.

I think that’s a lot of words to say, “waste a moment longer, let the kettle boil over, let the message stay unread. Linger in a situations that feel…different. That is where we find ourselves most alive.”

Day in da life at Duke's Beach House

Been a long time since I got to shoot restaurants. Got the opportunity to take some photos and felt back in my natural habitat. It’s been a great ride being a part of this restaurant. Here’s some shots of how I see it all

And I tell you what, it really helps candid photos when everyone already knows you!

Head in the Clouds:

Years have gone by since I went on a pure hiking trip. My senses tingle at the thought. Escape was not always the idea, but adventure. To see how beautiful things were, not just what people told you about.

There’s something special about hiking. Slivers of sweat invade every corner of yourself while your legs start to burn. Some combination of pain and glory happen all at the same time as your eyes keep finding new wonders. Its that moment we live for when you turn the corner of an unknown canyon or forest, when you see the first glimpse of an incredible horizon you didn’t know existed: magic…you feel so comforted.

As always, I didn’t intend on writing this with tons of emotion. Ive been busy, but after a few moments of fantasy and history, a layered experience of my past travels unwound. I felt emotional. I had that shiver down my spine when your experience is stronger than you anticipated; collisions of the conscious and subconscious. I felt happy and joyful with that pang of sadness. There’s probably a Japanese word for it. To have completed something beautiful and the moment it’s over we feel sad. Even all these years later.

How poetic a feeling, I look forward to the sadness again because I know I must of done something marvelous.

I know some people don’t come here for a story, but I don’t really care. I’m here having a moment, and I decided to share because of how it feels to be human, right then, right now, on this little dot in the universe.

This is my art. Love me or hate me.
Get out there and explore your soul.

Molto Italiano:

Tonight’s reminisce leads me to Italy. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite places I forever will return to. Food and culture are layered in the very bricks. People walk and talk the very streets their ancestors did. History was written 2000 years before, yet still rewritten everyday in every corner in every way. Somehow, even you and me are a part of it all now. We are modern, and we are ancient history. Isn’t that a beautiful? That’s my kinda idea of romanticism.

World Cup Fever 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 :

England made it to the final four and I’ve kinda been cheering for them. Not sure why, but I do love some English folk. Of course, this is a great time to roll out some photos from the archive from a lovely country.

What a magical place, from the history and architecture to the way the streets feel. Stories are in the very bricks of every corner and countryside. I love that feeling. Like being in a library full of unknown stories and adventure. I mean, Harry Potter lived his imaginary life here. Isn’t that fantastical enough? Short and sweet, just for you Dev.

See you in a few months UK!

Taiwanese Story:

I don’t really know how to explain Taiwan to you. Only half the story was my own to share.

I had a beautiful experience with tons of ups and downs. It was so similar to what I knew in travel yet felt so tranquil. Something in the atmosphere that can only be understood in island culture. This feeling of “exhale” exists. It coats everything in a place that should be hustle and bustle; permeates, resonates. A good pace to live life. Taking your time is appreciated.

There’s a spot in my heart for Taiwan. It was short, but special. Something always seems to resonate when I think of it, but not every story gets to be shared. Some you keep all for your own, and that truly makes something special.
