Another glimpse of Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The water flow was so intense that the mist only allowed limited views from a few places but enough to perhaps have a sense of the might of this raw force in nature.

This capture hardly does justice to the mighty Victoria Falls. One of the seven natural wonders of the world, Vic Falls are approximately a mile wide and the largest sheet of falling water on earth. It is fed by the Zambezi River. Straddling two countries, this frame shows only a fraction of one end of the falls in Zambia. This rainy season brought so much precipitation that the water was roaring and creating such a mist that you could not see the majority of the falls. The roar and the soaking cloud that surrounded the site could be seen and heard for miles. It was an incredible force to behold.

I had to travel to Africa to do so, but I finally spotted an owl in the wild. The Eagle-Owl is unique with its pink eyelids and its impressive size. The raptor is reportedly the largest in Africa weighing up to 6.9 pounds with a wingspan that can grow to up to five feet. They will sn**ch up rabbits, rodents, and even baby warthogs.

The Funeral Mountains are rugged and colorful formations that tower above the eastern edge of Death Valley. Dante’s View sits in the nearby Black mountain range and offers a sweeping view of these and other mountains surrounding the basin. This was taken just before the western sun sank beneath the peaks on the other side of the valley.

This sunset shot was taken from Dante’s View above the lowest place on the North America continent. Badwater Basin sits 282 feet below sea level and is the hottest place on earth. Looming miles to the west, you can see the eastern Sierra silhouetted against the golden glow. Whitney is just to the right but obstructed and is the highest point in the lower 48 states, rising to 14,505 feet.
