Today is International Women's Day so let's celebrate the women in rock and metal who refuse to shrink themselves!

Artists like Tatiana Shmayluk of the band Jinjer, Amy Lee from Evanescence, Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless, Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox, Maria Brink of In This Moment, Lizzy Hale from Halestorm, Dorothy Martin of Dorothy, Jyl & Jules Wylde from The Pretty Wild, and the Villarreal sisters of The Warning — women who have carved out space in heavy music and helped prove the stage belongs to us too.

But there are a lot of women out there right now who deserve some attention too.

If they’re not on your radar yet, fix that:

These women don’t ask for permission.
They kick the door open.

International Women's Day

Some shows are loud. Some shows make you lean in.

Tonight was the second kind.

Local singer-songwriter Noelle Voglewede opened the night with a beautiful, wandering folk blues set that immediately pulled the room in. The kind of songs that feel like stories being told rather than performed.

Libby DeCamp followed with a voice that feels like it’s been living inside old blues records for decades ... raw, soulful, and completely unfiltered. It was one of those performances where the whole room goes quiet because nobody wants to miss a note.

Grateful to work in rooms that care about the music.
