Moms of Newborns ...
Since this seems to be a hot topic lately, I thought I would share a couple of links that can be very helpful.

As a parent, it's our right and job to question any situation that feels as though it may not be safe for baby. However, also realize when you see an image on a photographer's site that it is very possible that it is a composite shot and that there was an actual spotter's hand on baby always.

On the other end, I agree that it is never safe to place baby on top of an object or piece of furniture and walk away. As stated in the articles below, all it takes is one sneeze, or jerky startle from baby to fall forward.

Unfortunately, there is not a safety regulation that photographers are forced to follow. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a mom say "I was very uncomfortable, but didn't know what to say." Trust your gut always. Your photographer will understand !
