Portraits of UCSD

Portraits of UCSD This is a photography project to show the awesome students who go to UCSD. Tag yourselves and friend What is this? Who am I? See you around campus!

We all know there's a lot of people that go to UCSD, but do you really know who goes to UCSD? This project aims to separate faces from the 30,000 walking though campus everyday. I'm Jeffery Lo and I graduated with a degree in Biology at UCSD in 2014. Photography has been a casual hobby of mine and I decided that I wanted to this after being inspired by Rabi and Christina doing this over at UBC and

SFU. The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman and the Seattle 100 project by Chase Jarvis were pretty inspirational as well. You can check them out at:

I shoot primarily with a Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4. I'm hoping to share my experiences on this project and have fun meeting new people. You can see some of my other stuff and some of the portraits in higher quality on flickr (80607662@N07/)." rel="ugc" target="_blank">http://www.flickr.com/photos/80607662@N07/). Hi all,

I guess it's been a long time coming, but Portraits of UCSD has officially come to an end.

I started this project at the suggestion of Christina Liu, who was doing this at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. The funny thing was I didn't actually start until a year after, because I thought it would be really awkward to go up to people and ask for their photo. I sucked it up and started by finding my friends on campus and photographing them. Then with the help of David Zinn tagging along for moral support, I started approaching random people. The rest, as they say, is history.

Throughout the project, I had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people. Aside from the answers to the questions you all saw here, I got to learn about their stories and at what stages they were in life. People always say that UCSD doesn't have enough school pride since we don't have many D1 sports or other reasons, but I would tell them that they just haven't stopped to have a conversation with their fellow students. Their stories made me fill with pride for being part of the UC San Diego community. I can't stress enough that there are awesome and intelligent people everywhere here.

Finally, I'd like to thank you all for supporting me. You got me on the front page of the school newspaper, the UCSD Guardian...who would have thought?! I also can't believe that people are still liking the page every day. As vain as it might sound, the likes showed me that this was worth doing and that you all wanted to join me on my intimate journey with students and faculty at UCSD. I really can't thank you all enough.

As for what's next, I'm currently working in biotech and will probably end up applying to pharmacy school soon (maybe I'll resume this again!). I'm also going to try to take photography as seriously as time and opportunities allow. If you would all like to join me on this next stepping stone, you can follow me at Jeffery Lo Photography , www.jefferylo.com or on Instagram. I'll start blogging about it more as time goes on, but for now I'll just update the pages with my current work. Feel free to post questions on this post and I'll try to answer them as best as I can. Anyway, on to the next adventure!

Best,
Jeff

Q: What would you like God to say to you at the pearly gates?

A: I'd like to hear that I've lived my life to the fullest, taken all the opportunities I should have, and that I've treated people well. I think that's important

Didn't think the page was going to pass 2k likes before I graduated. Thanks for the continued support and making it happen!
