PROJECT THROWBACK: We are big animal lovers here at Blue Potato Media, so when a friend got us in contact with Courtney Griffin, who was starting her own veterinary office in Apison, it was an absolute delight to work on creating a brand message video for her business that ended up winning a silver Telly award.

As we went through the story-finding process, we realized what we wanted to emphasize felt like going back to basics. For Dr. Griffin, the point is not to make a bunch of money, but to make sure that the pets can live for as long as they possibly can. This led to us creating the little slogan that you see in this video “as long as animal-y possible”, and we structured the rest of the video around that mantra. Once again, once the script was complete and approved, we used detailed (…stick figure…) storyboards to pair each word with a related or communicative visual.

Working with animals is like herding cats and dogs, but the good news is that cuteness can steal the show. To have an easier cat to work with, we actually filmed with our very own cat, Mim, because she comes to the sound of our editor, Annie, singing. So while typically doing a follow shot of a cat jumping onto a couch should have been an issue, we were able to do three takes in a row . We also filmed during an actual dog dental surgery for the parts you see there, where Dr. Griffin had to remove 9 infected teeth! (We didn’t show the gross stuff) The owner of Mia the pit bull in the video, is a real client of Highland, and also agreed to film a testimonial during the shoot day, which we delivered at a later time.
