Cairo’s Pumpkin Patch
… patch… funny if you think about it.
My very close friend has one of two sweet baby boy sphinx cats and unfortunately he is diagnosed with melanoma in his eye.

Luckily the cancer did NOT spread and although his eye is scheduled to be removed, his quality of life shall remain full of love, support, and many treats!! Happy Fall 🍁

✨ sighs in tired millennial ✨

When you look at social media today versus 10 years ago, there’s a massive shift in how we use the internet that gets completely overlooked.

The story is usually framed around changing app design, going from square photos to short form video, or constantly changing what shows up in your feed.

But there’s a deeper psychological trade hiding right behind the scenes.

We stopped sharing for the people we actually knew.

Early Instagram was built around raw moments. You posted an unedited coffee cup, threw on a heavy Valencia filter, and saw your friends’ posts in chronological order.

There was barely any pressure to perform.

You weren’t thinking about reach.

You weren’t checking whether the algorithm liked your post.

You were just sharing something because you wanted your friends to see it.

Today, hyper optimized algorithms and the creator economy completely changed the rules.

So the platform shifted in two distinct steps:

1. Personal connection got replaced by retention focused content feeds.
2. Sharing a photo went from a low stakes memory to a high pressure performance.

Imagine sitting down with someone who never experienced early social media and trying to explain that we traded genuine, stress free photo sharing with people we actually know for spending hours scrolling through algorithmic recommendations, ads, and influencer content.

And somehow, we convinced ourselves that was an upgrade.

My question is…

Did social media naturally evolve into what users wanted, or did we optimize the fun and authenticity right out of being online?
