Yesterday, I had the honor of photographing Dawn and her closest friends here in the Smoky Mountains on what they shared would be their final girls trip together.

When Dawn first reached out, she was open about her terminal diagnosis and mentioned the session might be emotional. I came in expecting heavy moments… but what I experienced instead was something I won’t ever forget.

There were no sad vibes—just laughter, love, and a kind of joy that fills the room and stays with you. Dawn carries a light that is incredibly rare. In the middle of something so heavy, she chooses positivity, strength, and gratitude—and it’s nothing short of inspiring.

This session meant more than photos. It was a reminder to slow down, to appreciate what we have, and to choose joy whenever we can.

The world needs more people like her.
