I got a little artsy fartsy last night during the fireworks show in Manlius. The process is called phase shifting. Basically, I take a long exposure of the firework–about 4-8 seconds or so– and then manually focus the lens from in focus to out of focus and back again before it evaporates. One of the things frustrating about the new Canon lenses for the RF (and the EFs were guilty too) is that there are no hard and fast focus stop points, it just spins continually. Next year, I want to find an old lens I can modify on that I can set my in and out point with tape or something on the lens and not have to guesstimate. I also want to do this from a drone next year as I can set a focus in and out during a long exposure from up above!

A little flag football action...

The first girls all-star CNY flag football game at Fowler High School saw lots of action, busted lips, konked heads, and nervy plays on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, but it was the North that dominated 32-18 to cap off the girls first season of play.
