The 'Near Threatened' American Oystercatcher bird
I saw a pair the day prior, so, I woke up early and was able to watch them again. The sun was just coming up, no one around, just these two. This one was able to open the shell near its feet and eat the inside, while the other chased for a bit prior to the opening. The other finally found it's own shell creature to eat. They were adorable to watch and such color!

This was the best morning. We did a hike on this small island and there was one bird. The guide knew I just wanted to sit with a bird for as long as possible. I think I was in awe, being with the BFB, finally. When thinking about taking this trip, the goal was the photograph this bird. I was so in awe, I used my phone most of the time and then realized, oh, no...use the camera too!

Males display their feet in an elaborate mating ritual by lifting them up and down while strutting before the female. The blue comes from carotenoid pigments obtained from its diet of fresh fish. The blue also indicates the health condition of the male. It is believed that early European explorers named the species 'bo***es' after the Spanish word 'bobo' meaning stupid; they appeared clumsy on land.
