The work on my first film project continues but before I need to top and turn to travel preparations I wanted to share another look at the work-in-progress from the KC Lawn party before I go to Bedford Camera & Video to pick up my negatives.
Last year while taking pictures of the Back Alley Brass Band I saw some of the performers from Elemental Performance and as I furiously tried to find a wide enough lens to capture the moment I thought that this was one of the first times I really wanted something to capture the moment that was larger than 35mm. The week before the Kansas City Parks and Recreation that chance arrived, but given that I'd received it while broken I knew exactly what the second of the two rolls of strangely familiar Gold 200 that this old cat named Dave managed to have in his stash should be reserved for.
Shooting film was never something I aspired to to, nor was I really seeking out film cameras yet after spending time taking in the vibes at Ted’s Taproom what landed from the mothership was two beautiful yet funky looking vintage cameras which had been declared non functional but in need of a good home where they'd be appreciated and loved.
After some study and gently and deliberately doing the work, I find myself with not one but two film cameras with interesting local histories to help me continue documenting the always evolving sights sounds and feeling of Kansas City Jazz whether it's happening in the Crossroads, the sculpture gardens of the The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the stages of Pride at Theis Park, rip s**t bluegrass at Waldo Grain or the occasionally atonal jams from the bells of the Country Club Plaza while seeing that yes, people ride the heck out of the RideKC streetcar of all kinds.
To all the performers and musicians I've met and worked with over the past few weeks, I'm digging through and out as fast as I can and can't wait for you all to see what's waiting for the return of my time and attention and for me to share everyone. Thank you all for the work you've put in and the energy you give so freely.
