I see a version of this post in local groups probably twice a week: “Looking for a photographer who doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”

I get why people post it. Nobody wants to overpay for anything. But I think a lot of people asking that question don’t actually know what they’re comparing photographers on, so “cheap” becomes the only variable they can measure.

Here’s what actually drives the price difference: how much time someone spends editing, how many sessions they’re willing to book in a day (so yours doesn’t get rushed), how much experience they have handling a newborn who won’t stop crying or a toddler who won’t sit still, and whether they’re doing this as a real business or a weekend hobby while they figure out their style.

None of that shows up in a Facebook post asking for a number.

You can absolutely find someone cheaper than me. You might even like their photos. That’s genuinely fine …this isn’t a dig at anyone shopping on price, because for some people, a quick, affordable session is exactly what they need and want.

But if you’ve ever gotten photos back and felt like something was missing… the editing looked flat, the posing felt forced, nothing about it really felt like you — that’s usually not bad luck. That’s the gap between “affordable” and “figured out what they’re actually good at.”

I’d rather be honest about my pricing and my niche than pretend I’m the answer to every version of that post. I’m not trying to be the cheapest option in the group. I’m trying to be the right one for people who want what I actually do well. 🤎🤍

Part #1 of my location guide 🤎

Choosing a location is about more than just picking the prettiest spot. Some locations are better for running, playing, games, and kids who need room to move. Others work better for a more dressed-up look with florals, softer colors, or outfits that feel a little more polished.

The season matters too. Some spots are better in summer, some are prettier in winter, some need sun, and some are actually great on cloudy days.

Outfits can help guide the location, or the location can help guide the outfits. A field usually looks best with more earthy, casual, neutral tones, while gardens or campus spots can handle softer colors, florals, and dressier pieces a little better.

Basically, you do not have to know the perfect spot.

That is definitely my job & I’ve got it handled.

You think you’re booking photos because you need one good picture where everyone looks nice.

And yes, we’ll get that.

But the ones that will wreck you later usually aren’t the perfect smiling ones.

They’re the way your baby reaches for your face.
The way your toddler laughs with their whole body.
The way your child leans into you without being asked.
The season your family was in before it changed again.

I’m Sara, a motherhood + family photographer in North Georgia, and I’m currently booking maternity, newborn, and family sessions for June & July.

My sessions are relaxed, warm, and focused on connection.

i’ve got a few spots over the next couple weeks if you want to just get it done and not make it a whole big thing
