Maya was part of my first flower fields session this year, and the Golden Hour light was perfect for a senior photo session. A 1970s analog camera and hand-processed film complete the vibe.

Wesley Wells Farms has a BUNCH of dates in September and October for some amazing photography in nature. If you want to create real photographic art that you can touch, see, and enjoy for generations, drop me a line and tell me how you want to be seen.

Ella's senior photoshoot was a vintage "Audrey Hepburn" theme, captured on an antique camera and 35mm film in the Cornish countryside.

Ella counts photography among one of her own hobbies, and she had some great suggestions for angles and locations. Both of us scouted out the area before the started, so we had a "shot list" ahead of time that gave us a ton of variety and was a lot of fun to create.

There were so many fantastic images it's impossible for me to choose a favorite set, but here are a few from the gallery!

Senior photos!

Liam really wanted a classy session with his prom tuxedo and his favorite guitar. He really drove the conversation discussing location and scenes ahead of time, and making a ton of fun suggestions during the session. Being able to personalize the time and images for people is so enjoyable, and requires a lot of flexibility and expertise to adjust in the moment.

The most amusing part of the time we spent in the park was finding a huge sea turtle statue and making it a feature of his session as well. The time spent adjusting the guitar strap to fit was well worth it!

This was one of those experimental shots that my wife and muse has had to suffer with as I've explored new things. In this case, not only a new location (Wesley Wells Farms) but also the Lomo '92 film stock.

At least in my hands, I wasn't happy with the color tones and palette. Maybe that was an exposure issue, but other film I used at the same time looked fine. However, many color mishaps can be fixed with a quick desaturation to a monochrome image!

So here we are, black and white in the wildflowers, and I won't be adding Lomo '92 to my usual repertoire.

Studio work with Erin!

As my muse over several years, she has often had to make do with experimental film emulsions, new-to-me lenses and semi-functional cameras, and so for her Forty over 40 session she wanted the full client experience.

We rented Jax Mini Sessions Studio for 2 hours, I packed the Nikon F4 professional camera and the same Acros II film that every other project contributor was using, and we did a full mix of fashion and portraiture.

For this scene we used the studio wind machine to get that flyaway look without having to deal with the usual Florida humidity. I do love working outdoors, but when you want a comfortable, controlled environment the studio is definitely the place to be.

A small bench by a stream at the end of the field near our rental in England made for a perfect little photo spot.

Ella had clear ideas on her senior portrait session - a 1950s vibe in black and white, casual scenes in nature, and later more around London. As well as taking digital test shots (some of which she ended up including as her favorites!) I specifically close to use color film and convert to BW rather than shoot directly with BW film. The end result was a very strong film portfolio with few missed/disliked shots and an overall 87% keeper rate.

Street Savvy film is a medium speed emulsion, capable of working indoors and in sunlight, assuming you have a good understanding of photography. It's soft, nostalgic color palette works well with the vintage lens on the Kodak IIIc camera. I felt that I could give Ella the option of color if she wanted, but when she saw the portfolio she ended up choosing all the monochrome images anyway đŸ˜„
