On my first official day back on trail heading NOBO as a real thru hiker we had a number of adventures.

1. The day started in a tizzy with figuring out how I would proceed without the chest strap on my pack. Bill had located it in his car but he was now in Kentucky so I was SOL. Tom ended up calling the outfitter down the street in Daleville and they just so happened to have another REI flash womens pack. This pack belonged to another thru hiker named Clocks. She had purchased a different pack at the outfitter the day before and the owner was going to send it back to them for her. But then...I showed up and he offered to remove the chest strap on hers to put it on mine. What are the damn chances? Clocks then walked in to the store to pick up a few more things before getting back on trail. I was able to thank her for my "the trail provides" moment.

2. After we left the outfitter, my trail husband Tom aka Bomba convinced me to stop at Wendy's in the parking lot to get a Frosty because it could be days before I saw another one! Lol It was so stinking hot already that I gave in and had my Frosty before hiking any miles northbound.

3. When we reached the trailhead, Bomba introduced me to Yahtzee and Mulligan who were also heading Northbound. We all reached the 1/3 of the way to Maine sign together. We ended up bouncing around yahtzee and mulligan all the way into New York before they pulled ahead of us.

4. When we reached the first shelter of the day, we took a break and found the Roanoke AT club out digging a new hole for the privy. What an amazing team they are and they do incredible work in their area. Homer and his wife shuttled me twice on my thru hike. It was such a pleasure meeting them both and all the members of their team!

It's been a long, wild 8 months this last year.

Starting the trail in March while still fully employed . . . to leave the trail and quit my job . . . to jump ahead on the trail to hopefully make it to Maine on time . . . To summit Mt. Katahdin on October 15 . . . To jump back down south and hike 400 more miles north entirely alone with the southbounders dwindling in the freezing cold and prime hunting season . . . And knee deep leaves freaking everywhere . . .

I couldn't keep up with instagram as I didn't want to post exactly where I was and my phone absolutely sucks 99% of the time even off trail. It just got to be too much to try and update all the things in the moment.. I'll have to fill in the blanks over the next few weeks. BUT

Sunday, March 21 to Wednesday, November 24 Mona Leafa officially became a thru- hiker and a Virginia Triple Crowner with my 3 part finish.

Mcafee K**b was beautiful yesterday morning at about 17 degrees (if that). Dragons Tooth was awesome to finally cross off the day before and I got to meet a future AT thru-hiker who will be starting his journey next March. Thanks for being a part of my final stretch Daniel!

Tinker Cliffs never disappoints either! I forgot to take a photo while I was at the cliffs with the view as I was talking to folks. So, the next best thing was the last cliff before I jumped off the AT and where I hung out in the shade back in June to get some relief from the summer heat.

Goodbye, AT. It is a weird feeling, but it is time to snuggle my Meatball and Melvin.

Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll!

We had an amazing sunset on Big Firescald K**b. Bomba may have hated me at the end of the night because we did a really long day with a tough final stretch. But, he got over it with how beautiful it was! Lol

Grateful for the view and not having to use the bad weather bypass!

So behind on photos!

Traveling through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park back in May. We saw Clingmans Dome, the 200 At mile marker, snow, the TN/NC state line at Newfound Gap, and Charlie's Bunion.

Still chugging along!

The Smokys were interesting and so full of "excitement" that it's now taken me 2 months to post the pictures. 🤣 Officially my least favorite place on the AT so far.

Day 1 to Birch Spring campsite to avoid a little weather coming in.
