⚠️ Human Remains Discovered in East Peoria — Area Previously Searched in Connection with Missing Peoria Woman
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, mushroom hunters made a disturbing discovery along the 1300 block of Cole Street in East Peoria… a partially buried human skull found in a wooded area off the roadway.
The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Division, and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office responded. No identification has been made. The investigation is ongoing.
What makes this discovery significant is what we know about this specific location.
In 2019, the Cole Street area in East Peoria was searched in connection with the disappearance of Alexis Camry Scott.. a 20-year old Peoria mother who vanished in the early morning hours of September 23, 2017 after attending a party on Richmond Avenue. That search was conducted based on a tip received in connection with her case.
Alexis left behind a two year old son who is now nine years old. She has never been found.
As of this afternoon, law enforcement is still actively on scene at Cole Street.. more than 24 hours after the initial discovery. Officers were observed on location, with at least one continuing to document the area.
No identification has been made. We will update this story as information becomes available.
