Another day of shining a light on our amazing First Responders.

UPDATE on the Southgate Officer involved shooting that we covered.
This happened on September 15th in the 600 block of Southgate. Iowa City Officers were responding to a call to a man (Allen Lemburg) that was making threatening statements and gestures while holding a knife. It ended with Lemburg being shot and passing away.
The DCI has officially wrapped up its portion of the investigation and referred its findings to the prosecutors on October 5, 2026. This is the standard process for an Officer involved shootings.
The DCI findings are now with both the Iowa Attorney General's Office and the Johnson County Attorney's Office for their formal review. Both offices will assess everything given to them (evidence, body camera footage, witness statements etc) to make the determination if the officers were legally justified or if charges are warranted.
We will continue to keep you updated.
