Photographing one of Rodeos Main Events is very fun, though not as stressful as the timed events, it's a personal favorite to get the traditional poses of contestants during their rides and not knowing what going to happen next.

I don't normally photograph outside the arena during performances but when it comes to Freestyle bull fights. I'd rather not risk it. Not because I'm scared of course, I'd just prefer to not get in the way and interfere.

Photographing Breakaway you just cannot BLINK what so ever. Bring eye drops if you have to because these girls rope fast and catch quick. Seriously, blink once at a jackpot next thing you know they're starting the second round. Maybe this will be the post that convinces the powers at be to .

Steer Wrestling is another event I would like to do more just to fine tune my process. This and bronc riding I can say are the two most dangerous events to photograph. Mainly because they both involve a horse that doesn't fully understand the phrase "woah". Nothing compare to the feeling of dodging those horses, getting the picture, and living to be able to tell the story.

PHOTOGRAPHING TEAM ROPING IS HARD! There's nothing else to say to be honest, especially when I'm trying to get my camera to focus on both riders, both horses, and the steer if I'm lucky. Since I started photographing these events my mentality was to recreate the same feeling I had when I saw those old photos on the walls of friends and family growing up or what I saw in AQHA or Cowboy Sports News Magazines. Images with best quality, best composition while also showcasing the agility these horses and contestants present in the arena.

Barrel Racing is an event I wish I could attend more of because of how much I want to fine tune my process when I am getting traditional photos. Whenever I am at an event there are obstacles that every photographer deals with and I am happy with my progression with the few events RJM goes to.

OCT 18 at the Grimes County Fairgrounds $1,500 is added to the open barrels at the PV Homecoming Rodeo and I have a feeling the competition will be tight. RJM will be your official photographer on the grounds and can't wait to see you all compete.
