A nice morning cup of coffee on the bank of one of the ponds in George Bush Park, which is a county park on the far west side of Houston, Texas. Situated entirely within the Barker Reservoir, the park covers 7,800 acres (32 km2). The United States Army Corps of Engineers constructed Barker Reservoir in the 1940s to limit flooding along Buffalo Bayou. The park consists of several ponds, a shooting range, numerous pavilions and playgrounds, soccer fields, softball/baseball fields, a dog park, an equestrian trail, a model airplane flying field, and 11.36 miles of hike and bike trails ranging around Buffalo Bayou. Named in honor of former Houston-area U.S. Representative and President George H. W. Bush.
