Catherine Couturier Gallery and I donated an 8” × 8” print of this photograph of mine to Houston Center for Photography for its annual print auction and dinner — this year honoring two people many of us know and love, who have shaped the arts scene in Texas in such meaningful ways: Keith Carter and Jereann Chaney.

Silent auction bidding is open through tonight, so if you’d like to bid online, including on my print, today’s the perfect day to do so! If you’re the winning bidder of one or more silent auction items and won’t be at HCP’s event this evening, HCP will work with you to get your item(s) to you.

Here’s the auction link (my print is #169): https://qtego.us/qlink/hcponline

Proceeds from the event support HCP and its education programs, so bid generously! ⭐

If you’ll be at the dinner at Hotel ZaZa tonight, I hope I get to see you there!

Today’s a good day to celebrate the photography community — World Photography Day 📷

Many of us wear, or have worn, multiple hats: photographer, communicator, strategist, manager, fundraiser, editor, and more. The creative path isn’t always linear, and that’s part of what adds to its richness, story, and meaning.

Grateful for the collaborators who help bring our artwork into the world: equipment makers (thank you, ), publishers, editors, curators, dealers, gallerists, printers, framers, handlers, shippers, and everyone behind the scenes whose expertise makes the final image possible.

This particular archival print (36” square on metallic photo paper; signed edition of 25) was one of four acquired last month by a collector of my work. Huge thanks to , who’s represented me for nearly a decade, and to for overseeing this most recent acquisition and placement.

And speaking of evolving: a new chapter in my professional career is on the horizon.
Stay tuned!

TODAY is THE DAY! The Molly Block: Sign of the Times show is up on the walls at Catherine Couturier Gallery — and looks fantastic, thanks to Catherine, Arnaud, and Reyna! Our opening reception is today from 4-6 pm at the gallery at 2635 Colquitt St. in Houston. Join us!

Catherine Couturier Gallery is pleased to announce "Sign of the Times," their second exhibition with Houston photographer Molly Block. The exhibition celebrates vintage signage and aims to capture the stories of these unique vestiges of Texas' history.

Molly Block's focus in photographing vintage signs stems from her appreciation for each sign's uniqueness and the craftsmanship involved in making each sign: each sign truly is a work of art. Also, the fact that weathering changes the appearance of signs, combined with property owners and/or real-estate developers who may not see value in preserving old signs, compels her to continue documenting signage and other roadside sights that still stand today. After all, the appearance of such artifacts may be different tomorrow, that is, if something is even still standing tomorrow.

A Texan by birth and a Houstonian by choice, Molly moved to Houston after living in Austin, Toronto, Southern California, and the Chicago area.

Molly's photography work has been shown at the Houston Center for Photography, Griffin Museum of Photography, Museum of Neon Art, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and other venues in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Denver, Fort Worth, San Francisco, and Vienna (Austria), among other cities; and featured in the Houston Chronicle and Houston Press and on various websites, including Don’t Take Pictures, Texas Monthly, Collectors Weekly, and the Houston-based real estate site, Swamplot.com, among others.

Grateful & honored that juror Alison de Lima Greene — Modern & Contemporary Art Curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston — selected a print of this “Motel No More” image of mine for inclusion in the Visual Arts Alliance’s 38th Juried Open Exhibition. The exhibition, which opened on May 8, will be up through June 11 at Sabine Street Studios in Houston. Check it out, if you’re so inclined & are in Houston!

In photo #2, I tried to surreptitiously take a photo of three of my friend/fellow artist Frances Carter Stephens’s fans at the exhibition opening, but they saw me (and smiled). 😃
