Love these people. Love their happy faces. Love seeing my friends as parents and meeting their babies and stealing their snacks and this whole wild ride. Love being the person to freeze these seasons bc honestly, this IS the whole point.

Today Dane slipped on a Miles Morales mask and loudly ROARRRRED at his brothers and took off chasing them, because in Dane’s world he’s always the “dad die” (bad guy).

And I turned to Ed and said, “One day very far away, but also really soon, we’re going to be at our quiet dinner table having an uninterrupted meal and nobody will spontaneously morph into a villain that roars, and there won’t be any tiny fat hands squishing food into their mouths, and nobody will perform a full dance routine at random…”

And he chimed in, “and nobody will make up and draw new Pokemon characters”.

And then we both choked up and commiserated about how these are the best days and they’re passing by too fast 😩. O wouldn’t change a single sleepless night or moment of overwhelm (and there are a lot 🥹). Sometimes I can’t believe all these babies are ours?!

We can’t be the only people who do this like 3x a week, right?

One of the best ways to ensure your family session with tiny people is fun not stressy is to plan something fun not stressy.

If you’re worried that there’s no way your kids will sit still and smile and cooperate for an hour or even half of that, you’re right. They won’t. And they don’t need to!

At this extended family shoot we fed ducks, ran across bridges, played with cousins, climbed on mom and dad, ate candy, wiggled around and spent MAYYYBE 15% of our hour+ together actually trying to “pose”.

Family pictures should be a time to connect, and be snuggly and playful, NOT something to stress about. Your kids are not going to sit still for an hour and I wouldn’t want them to!

If you’re anxious about pictures, my best advice is to plan an activity or family date, bring a prop or 2 (picnic, snacks, teddy, toy cars, game, etc) and choose a location where your kids are free to run and be kids.

And if you’re looking for a photographer who’s comfortable with kids and their unpredictability, it’s me! Hi! I have 5 minions of my own

It’s school picture time for these homeschooled babies. Rather than aesthetic outfits and a full blown shoot (we’ll get to that soon), I let them dress themselves and each take a couple personality pics to remember who they were and what they loved at these ages.

Finn: Everything Pokémon forever. But also, that sweet, silly smile is what he does when he wants something. That’s his “you can’t say no to this face” face.
Fallon: She did her own makeup and chose a shirt she knows I love. She made her sassy dance face and wore unicorn vans. Fally is the sweetest friend, considers others, and she’s oh so spunky and fun.
Milo: Milo is in his King Kong era & loves New York City. He’s goofy & silly and takes nothing seriously (except legos and his art work). Also, he scales everything, climbs everything, jumps off everything.
Dane: Dinosaur pants from his cool big cousin and mamas ever hopeful attempt at making a white shirt work in this family. Dane responds to most comments, questions, & concerns with “RAWR”. His hair is crazy. He will not nap. And he loooooves his siblings.
Esti: EB is really coming into her own little personality. She squeals and screams and makes happy noises all day long. She’s a big time mamas girl but she loves his all@her brothers and sisters. She has 4 teeth and scrunches her nose when she’s mad. She just learned to high five and is v proud of her new trick.
