Today I’m sharing a shot of this medium power switchgear inside one of Eaton’s Integrated Power Assemblies, right before it shipped out. 🚛⚙️

Like most power control buildings, the space was tight. To get the entire unit in one frame, I reached for one of my most-used tools in industrial and architectural photography: a tilt-shift lens (Nikon calls it a "perspective control" lens 📐).

This lens lets me stay square to the subject and shift the frame vertically—capturing the top, middle, and bottom of the switchgear without distortion. I photographed it in 3 frames and stitched them together in post for a clean, complete final image. 💡📷

✨ Twilight—the magic between day and night.

Twilight only lasts about 30 minutes 2 times a day. You get about 5 more minutes in New York versus Houston. During that time the ambient light and artificial light are balanced. Colors pop and lights come on.

Twilight has been the ideal time to capture architectural, cityscape, and landscape images.
If you wait too late, there is not enough ambient light to see everything, and the shadows and darkness take over.
In Houston the ideal time is about 15 minutes after sunset, with the best light lasting just 15-20 minutes.
A lot of twilights happen in the evening since it is easier to plan. Morning twilights require a little more planning ahead of time, so you are not trying to figure everything out in the dark!

🔆Not all my subjects are buildings... sometimes it’s infrastructure! 💪

This shot at the Addicks Reservoir Dam proves even concrete can look sexy with the right light, angles, and a bit of patience (and bug spray 😅).

I get paid to make engineering projects look good—yes, even the ones swarming with mosquitos. 😎📸

📐 Our eyes are like Photoshop on steroids.

Nice, open, airy spaces are always fun to photograph—but what the eye sees and what the camera captures can be very different. We don’t notice blown-out windows or clashing color tones from mixed lighting in real life—but the camera sees it all.

That’s where lighting and technique come in.

Using flash helps balance the exposure between the interior and the outdoor view, while also correcting the color shift caused by natural light mixing with warm indoor bulbs.

As an architectural photographer, I mimic what your brain sees by capturing multiple exposures with carefully placed flash, then blending those frames together in post-processing for a clean, natural result. It's about composition, lighting control, and creating an image that feels just right.
