12th Year LWP Anniversary 🎂

I don’t remember the exact date, but I remember launching my photography website in February 2012. In that time frame, many of my seniors have gotten married and even had kids. Time went by quickly and before I knew it, it had been 12 years.

To be totally honest, I don’t feel too different than when I first started my business. I have a lot of experience under my belt, so every shoot is way easier than what it used to be when I was learning in the early days. However, the industry changes every year. There’s always new techniques, trends, and new technology to keep up with. I’m always learning, so it still feels fun and new.

Only when I realize the kids I used to know have all grown up do I feel like I’ve gotten older. On the inside, I still like the young upstart that only had one goal in mind, which was to create magazine worthy photos for everyday people.

As a photographer, I feel that my place in the world is to help others see their beauty and worth as a fellow human. I had a client told me recently that my photography is “healing.” That’s probably the highest compliment I can imagine. It felt good to hear that.

In years past, I never really celebrated the studio’s anniversary. I’m not one to celebrate big milestones. I don’t even post about it either. I acknowledge it in my head, and I move onto the next project, next photoshoot, next big goal I want to pursue.

But this year, I want to at least say “Happy 12th birthday Ling Wang Photography.” It’s not easy to run a creative business for more than a decade and still maintain a fairly full calendar. It’s actually hella hard, so I’m so grateful for every person who has allowed me to live this dream of doing what I love everyday. Thank you for having me in your life and allowing me to capture special memories for you.

Also I really want to acknowledge , our studio manager who I literally cannot live without. She’s my rock. Thank you to our various hmu teams. The list is too long for this caption. so I’ll tag everyone in the second image. You ladies are the best!

✨FAMILY MINI-SESSION ADD-ON ✨
Usually when a senior comes to me, it’s been years since their family has done family pictures. It gets harder and harder to do family photos once the first child goes off to college, so I always recommend booking a full family session OR do a mini-session add-on before college. Family minis can be added to senior shoots, and we usually just take 30 minutes. The whole family can get some individual shots with that time frame, some unit photos, and the full family photo. Trust me when I say this, it is SO hard to get together for family photos when the kids grow up. Take the opportunity now because these photos will be priceless down the line. You cannot rewind time. Only photos can freeze that moment.

This is one of my best senior photoshoots from two years ago, and I’m embarrassed to say that I only now got around to posting it. At the time I only posted one photo. I couldn’t figure out what to post, so I just didn’t. All the photos were good, and this is just one look out of a much larger set of images. For now, I’ll just share this gym set.

We shot everything at cause that’s the primary gym he went to for practice, and I brought my lighting on set. Most of it was a two light setup, sometimes three lights. The gym was not overly busy at the time, so we could move around freely. I gelled the lights with color to add more of a cinematic vibe. What do you think? It’s different from my usual right?

Vendor Highlight: Stylist ✨

If you truly want to elevate your shoot and make it more fashion forward and unique, a stylist can work MAGIC! I highly recommend more of our seniors would take up the opportunity to work with one, either through personal shopping or on the shoot day.

My good friend has done an amazing job with many of my seniors. I posted a couple in the carousel. She pulls looks that my clients would never think of and really takes the shoot to the next level. She’s been in the fashion industry for well over a decade, works with the biggest modeling agencies in town, and she also owns the vibest studio downtown called . Giving her a shout out today cause I adore her and would really like for my clients to consider her for more shoots. It really makes a difference in the quality of photos when the outfit is top notch!

Did some headshot/branding photos for Houston attorney Matthew Gilliam recently. He brought a brown suit, which I rarely see, but it was the perfect compliment to his hair color and skintone! ✨Legacy Family Portraits✨
I’d like to encourage families to bring in their grandparents this year to be included in part of the family session. Multigenerational family portraits are so meaningful. They are family heirlooms that can last even beyond our own lifetimes.

For myself too, I will try to convince my parents to be in our family photos this year. It does take extra effort to plan for so many people, but I want my daughter to have portraits with her grandparents.

That will be a personal project I’ll work on this year. We can do it together!
