My entry into the Sacred Art of Altars show sort of expanded on the notion of the altar. Titled “So many days are like these obscured windows and what we cannot hear,” the wooden pieces inside the altar box are largely held in place by friction. That wood comes largely from antique window frames and a little bit of cedar. The Topo Chico Agua Mineral bottle contains the glass of approximately 2.5 additional Topo Chico bottles. Want some cool art? Want to have a fun time? Well, Saturday, September 16, is the Closing Reception for Celebration Circle’s 2023 show.

Alexis Marie Bierman Roberts and I both created altars for this year, and my band Meadowood Trio (with Alex Salinas and Daniel Klein) will be playing for the closing reception.

If you are local, you can see our altars at the San Antonio Art League & Museum, 130 King William Street, 78204 this week through Saturday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm and at the Closing Reception this Saturday, September 16 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

You can go directly to the auction site bit.ly/altars2023 to see all the altars...and the bidding starts at $75. The silent auction benefits Celebration Circle, a San Antonio-based nonprofit organization that is also the foundation for a creative community that is near and dear to us.

This powerful exhibit features a dazzling display of contrasts in variety as well as a beautiful underlying unity.
