This will always be one of the shoots I am most proud of. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. It's a cause that is very personal and important to me. Real relationships are about love not hurt. Nobody should ever have to face this.
Years ago I had the opportunity to do an awareness shoot with a strong survivor with the battle scars to prove it.
I had posted an add on Craigslist looking for models for statement shoots. Nicole responded that one of my inspiration pics of powerful words covering the body resonated with her. Words were a part of her healing. Her way of coming to grips with and overcoming her struggle, was to cover a pair of shoes with all kinds of words with meaning to her. She told me after the shoot, that it was more healing, than anything else had been in her life. I am so honored to have been able to be a small part of her healing journey. She dictated most of this shoot deciding what she wore or didn’t, the wording and positioning of each and the poses highlighting what she wanted to focus on included the scars she carries from her abuse.
I will not tag her, or show some of the full photos. Even though I have a model release to do so. Many of the pics I feel are intimate and personal. That I want to be just for her. I'm sure the scars she carries around inside are as just as real as the ones seen on the outside.
We need to put and end to this. Please don't be silent! Help the people who can't help themselves!
