DENMARK (pre-pandemic): Copenhagen

Such a beautiful country! I came to visit primarily to check out the famous backdrop of Nyhavn. Looking back now, I’m glad I decided to visit then as I had a chance to see the historic spire building (aka Stock Exchange) as well, which has sadly collapsed early this year.

My recommendations (on a short visit):
1. Opt for a boat tour - for a chance to see other areas/landmarks from different POV, as well as glimpse of places you might want to explore further.

2. Check out Carlsberg Brewery - for its history and a chance to sip/chug a pint (or more) from its original brewery location. Note: a bus ride to this place from city central was fairly easy.

3. Check out Church of Our Savior - for a thrilling climb of its external spiral winding staircase! And, to pray of course. 😀

SINGAPORE (pre-pandemic): Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa, and historic sites

A must visit! In awe of this country’s ability to support innovations that represent important elements - nature, sensibility/functionality, and art!

Did the touristy stuff during my visit in the country. Would love to take this route on my next visit. One of these days . . . 🎌

Here are 10 facts about hiking the Nakasendo Samurai Trail:

1. Historical significance: The Nakasendo Trail was one of five major routes connecting Edo (modern-day Tokyo) to Kyoto during the Edo period (1603-1868).

2. Samurai heritage: The trail was frequently used by samurai, merchants, and common travelers, offering a glimpse into feudal Japan's history.

3. Well-preserved sections: Several portions of the trail, particularly between Tsumago and Magome, remain largely intact and maintain their historical charm.

4. Scenic beauty: The trail winds through the picturesque Kiso Valley, offering stunning views of the Japanese countryside, forests, and mountains.

5. Traditional accommodations: Hikers can stay in historic post towns along the route, experiencing traditional Japanese inns (ryokans) and local hospitality.

6. Cultural immersion: The trail passes through quaint villages where visitors can experience authentic Japanese culture, cuisine, and customs.

7. Manageable difficulty: While some sections involve moderate hiking, much of the trail is suitable for hikers of various fitness levels.

8. Year-round appeal: Each season offers a unique experience, from cherry blossoms in spring to vibrant foliage in autumn.

9. Convenient access: The trail is easily accessible from major cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, making it a perfect addition to a broader Japan itinerary.

10. Off-the-beaten-path experience: Hiking the Nakasendo offers a chance to explore a less touristy side of Japan, away from the bustling urban centers.

A great ending to each day this weekend . . .
