Having the day off I spur of the moment decided to drive to my happy place in the Everglades. I didn't want to give the mosquitoes too much of a heads up. Word still must have gotten out and the time it took me to drive there was enough for the welcoming committee to be waiting for me. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But I came fully prepared and enjoyed my two hours at the lakeside waiting for the sun to make its appearance. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Friday morning after a short night I was on my way to South Beach to capture the moon set and got caught in a thunderstorm just as I was pulling into the parking lot. Lightning was crashing down all around me and I spent the next 30 minutes sitting in my car wondering if this is going to stop anytime soon.

The rain then did stop and it also started to clear out. So I grabbed my bag to walk over to Government Cut. By the time I got there most of the clouds had disappeared and the full moon was shining bright as it was slowly setting over Brickell.

Sitting in the parking lot watching the moon vanish from view over the span of 1 hour and 40 minutes and then re-appear I took images every 10 minutes to capture the progression. These are a few of them, the first one taken at 10:32 pm at the start of the partial eclipse and the last one shown taken at 11:52 pm.

The second and third image show the full Sturgeon Moon at 10: 28 pm - 4 minutes before the start of the partial eclipse - and 1:55 am - 4 minutes after the end of the partial eclipse. I wanted to wait a little longer, but my battery died, so I took that as my sign to leave the parking lot at catch a few zzz's before heading to work.

As many lunar eclipses I have seen and photographed, it's always quite a sight to see. And last night I didn't even have to go far. I just stepped outside the apartment and sat down in the parking lot watching the moon turning a deep copper red as Earthโ€™s shadow slowly drifted across its surface.

This shot was taken during the peak of the partial lunar eclipse at 12:12 am when approximately 93% to 94% of the moon's disk was covered by Earth's umbral shadow.

Monday I spent some time hanging out at the lifeguard tower at 100 Continuum South Tower. It was a beautiful morning as the sun was coming up - quiet and still. Quite different from the last time I was there. Then the beach was so crowded. I've never seen it that crowded before, at least not that early. I think I got caught in some tourist group or guided tour that day, because there were so many people.

It's been a while I've been to Hillsboro Inlet Park for an early morning shoot and with rain in the forecast I thought I stop there instead of walking to the inlet. The lighthouse was shining bright as dawn was breaking and far off lightning lighting up the clouds.

Sunrise that day then was a bit of a bust, at least from the inlet side. It was cloudy, hazy and smoky. Pompano Beach was blanketed in smoke from wildfires in the Everglades. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Sometimes cloudless skies can be quite beautiful, especially on a hazy day like this one and you even can watch the sun come up without being blinded by the light and needing sunglasses. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Enjoy your Sunday! ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒ…

Standing on the MacArthur Causeway to shoot the skyline I always keep an eye on the cars zooming by, waiting for a break in traffic so the bridge won't shake too much during my longer exposures. I must have found a good spot because the bridge barely moved during this 30 seconds exposure as cars were flying by heading to Miami Beach.

It was a beautiful morning over Miami, so calm the skyline and clouds were reflecting in the water as the sun was coming up behind me. It was actually the reflections that had caught my eye earlier as I was heading to the beach and I had to stop on Watson Island.
