This little one was working on its burrow right under our feet getting ready for hibernation while we were taking family pictures last summer

One year ago today 🐻🐺…

The night before, I had received intel that there had been a bison carcass spotted in the Yellowstone River in Hayden Valley. Having never seen a wild grizzly bear or wolf, I knew this could be my best opportunity to view one of the 2 species. So I decided to wake up at 4:30am and head into the park while the family slept in and rested for the hikes we had planned for later that day. When I arrived to Hayden Valley, the thermometer on the car read 33°F, which I was vastly under-prepared for wearing a hoodie and shorts (rookie mistake 😂). As I pulled up to the scene, a large male grizzly bear was already staking claim of “his” bison. As the morning progressed, 2 wolves from the Wapiti pack made their way over to the carcass once the bear had his fair share and left the scene. What an incredible experience to check off 2 bucket list animals in the same morning 📸

Yellowstone sure was showing off that morning! I cannot wait to go back in January with Amy Ames Photography to see it in a full blanket of snow ❄️
