On a recent trip to Zion National Park I decided to end the day trying to photograph the Milky Way Core. The sun had just set after our hike to the narrows and I had three locations in mind. I had to make a quick decision so I settled on the location I’ve been wanting to shoot the most for years! Upon arrival, there were already three other photographers at the location so I knew I made the right decision. I set up two of my Canon USA cameras and my ProMaster tripod and photographed this moment in a single long exposure using my R5 with a 50mm 1.8 lens. Photographing a moment like this featuring the Milky Way core, meteors, and the aurora borealis in one shot is truly a dream come true! I’m sharing this moment in hopes of showing others how beautiful our world is, even after dark. It’s so important to protect our skies from light pollution and important to protect our lands from destruction!

It’s been a while since I’ve photographed the Milky Way core! I have a bucket list of locations where I’m determined to capture the Milky Way core and Zion National Park was one of them! This shot has been on my list for many years. Photographing a composition like this takes scouting, planning, timing, clear skies, no moon, no clouds, no wind, no flare ups, and a lot of patience! We wanted to get away from work yesterday, so we decided to be spontaneous and head to Zion. Thankfully my camera bag is always packed and ready to go on the fly, and my batteries were charged! The only thing I forgot was my red light lantern, but luckily there’s an app for that! We spent the day doing two big hikes for me, more on that later, and I pushed hard through the chronic pain to find the energy I needed to stay a little longer to get the shots I wanted! I was tired & rusty but determined and refused to give up even with the issues I had with my Promaster Photo tripod, yes I struggled for a bit but I didn’t let that frustrate me or stop me! I was grateful for where I was, and really embraced the beauty all around me! I was at Zion with the love of my life, perfect weather, beautiful skies, and the Milky Way core right in front of me! I set up two different cameras: my Canon 6D Markii with my Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens which I love to use whenever I want to photograph more of the landscape. I used this set up to photograph this moment in a single exposure. I also set up my Canon R5 with my Canon 50mm f1.8 lens (I haven’t downloaded those photos yet), so stay tuned. Last night Someone asked me why I like to photograph moments in a single exposure. I replied because I love to show people how beautiful the world really is as it is! That’s right folks, this is NOT Ai, and no stacking! I photographed this moment in one shot! It may not be perfect, there may be some noise, but this is the real beautiful world I experienced under a night filled with stars, and I want to share that we don’t need to manipulate things to try to make it look flawless! Hearing that our public lands are in danger is beyond heartbreaking!

I wish more people would travel and experience places like Chaco Culture National Historical Park to fully understand why it must be protected!

Traveling is more than an opportunity to create content! It can open your mind, educate you, and show you places you’ve never read about in any school books.

During one of my many trips to New Mexico, my partner and I went on quite the adventure to visit as many parks as possible for The disabled photographer Project to document How Accessible is Accessible for my award winning series.

Before I started my project, the only thing I knew about Chaco was what I saw on TV shows like Ancient Aliens. Growing up I never knew I had access to visiting archeological places of this magnitude in our country until I began investigating parks in areas I was visiting.

Chaco became a National Historical Park in 1980, but the Native Chaco people began creating the center long before. Plans for construction began in the 800’s and lasted over 300 years.

As you wander around the land and ruins, you can feel the spiritual connection between the buildings, earth and the sky. The Mountains stand guard over the great houses like protectors during the day, and the stars shine over the great houses like a tour guide leading the way in the night.

The center that once traded turquoise, shells, copper bells and cocoa has stood the test of time. Ruins of the highly sophisticated great houses, kivas, and roads built with stone tools, reveal the Chaco people had advanced masonry skills.

I’m so happy I had the opportunity to explore the area! This is one of my favorite places in New Mexico. Chaco is more than a stop in the National Park system, it is a sacred place that carries history, culture, energy, spirituality… and must be protected! Let your voice be heard by signing petitions

The only time I look back is to see how far I’ve come! As I sit here reflecting, I am truly grateful for this moment and where I am today!

After my accident at work, I was in a wheelchair for 3 years, and not sure if I would ever walk again! During that period of time I never gave up on myself, my passion for creating, writing, photography, or my love for traveling & being outdoors!

After many ups & downs, fighting the system, going through intense therapy & learning to stand, walk & live again with my invisible disabilities…my personal experiences led me to realize the power of the mind is an incredible gift! Focus, determination, will, Visualization, positive thoughts, mindset and a lot of hard work, helped me achieve many goals including standing up again, literally!

Being disABLED doesn’t mean I’m unable, it means I have to research more, work harder, prepare more & do things differently!

During the 3 years I was using a wheelchair, I discovered how inaccessible our world really is which led me to start my Award Winning Series The Disabled Photographer Project & How Accessible is Accessible series.

Looking back to all of the projects I’ve created over the years, I’ve truly enjoyed the journey of sharing the spotlight whether in front of the camera, on set or onstage with others! One thing I’ve learned over the years is how important it is to surround yourself with like minded, positive, professional, good spirited people who are drama free, value you, give credit where credit is due, and especially those who respect themselves, others and contracts! Working with good people can elevate your projects in every way while leading to places you never even imagined! I am so grateful for all of the wonderful people I have in my life and for all of the beautiful people inside and out that I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years! For those inquiring about my portrait experiences, like the ones you see in this video…right now I am not taking on photography clients. Just wanted to share some of my favorite moments I’ve captured over the years with my cameras. Looking forward to connecting with and working with more of you in the near future on set and on stage!
