Duck Creek 📍 Oakley, Ohio

A concrete flood channel covered in layers of constantly changing street art. It’s not a place most people stop to look at, but every visit feels like a completely different scene.

Henry Clay Mausoleum 📍 Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Kentucky

A rare look inside the final resting place of Henry Clay and his wife Lucretia.

Known as “The Great Compromiser,” Clay was one of the most influential figures in American politics and remains one of Kentucky’s most recognizable historical figures. Nearly 170 years after this monument was built, it continues to stand as one of the most iconic landmarks in Lexington.

When I was asked by a client if I had photographs from around Lexington, I thought surely I had a ton. But when I looked through my archives, not really.

Most of my time in Lexington has been spent on dates, with family, or hanging out with friends, and I try not to get too wrapped up in photography when I’m in those moments.

So this trip was different. Just me and a camera.

What surprised me most was how many incredible subjects I’d overlooked despite walking past them countless times. Places like the Old Fayette County Courthouse, which has stood in the heart of downtown since 1899.

James E. Pepper Distillery District 📍 Lexington, Kentucky

I first discovered the Distillery District when much of it was still sitting abandoned. Back then, The Break Room was one of the first signs that something special was happening here.

I’ve made a lot of memories in this place over the years. Bringing Lady here. Celebrating Mandy’s surprise birthday at Crank & Boom, where everyone hid inside the old vault before she arrived. Watching these historic buildings slowly come back to life.

The Pepper Distillery dates back to the late 1800s, but after decades of decline many of these buildings sat vacant and forgotten. Like so many abandoned places, people probably thought they were beyond saving.

Today, the district is one of Lexington’s biggest success stories. Restaurants, bars, shops, music, and new memories have filled these old buildings with life once again.

It’s a reminder that sometimes the places worth saving are the ones that seem too far gone.

We call this “Home Bridge” in my family. Whenever we’re coming back from our travels, driving under the CSX Railroad Bridge in Walton lets us know we’re almost home.

I’ve passed beneath it thousands of times over the years. To most people it’s just another railroad bridge, but to me it’s the unofficial gateway to home. The railroad line it carries, known today as the CSX LCL Subdivision, traces its roots back to the old Louisville & Nashville Short Line and has been connecting Cincinnati and Louisville for generations.

Over the last few months, I’ve been supplying Republic Bank with photos from around my area, including Florence, Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky. Some of those images are now hanging on the walls of their Covington and Florence locations.

Recently, they reached out looking for Lexington content, so today I found myself standing in front of Henry Clay’s home and spending the day exploring some of Lexington’s historic gems. Along the way, I visited historic homes, landmarks, statues, and spent some time wandering through the beautiful and historic Lexington Cemetery.

I came away with a memory card full of photos and a deeper appreciation for the history Lexington has to offer.

Stay tuned. I’ll be sharing some of my Lexington favorites soon.

The Historic Eagle Cotton Mill grabbed my attention in January of 2019 as a awesome abandoned building. It was one of those places you know will be torn down eventually.. but no… I just checked into this place and it’s amazing f what they accomplished with it. I will forever think of this abandoned factory when I’m told that a place is too far gone.

The story of the Eagle Cotton Mill goes back to 1885 when it opened along the Ohio River and quickly became one of Madison’s largest employers. For decades, hundreds of workers produced cotton products that were shipped throughout the country and beyond. The mill played a major role in Madison’s growth and became a symbol of the city’s industrial strength.

Over the years, the factory adapted to changing times, producing everything from cotton goods to military supplies during World War II before eventually transitioning to plastics. By 1980, operations had moved elsewhere, leaving this massive brick complex vacant and slowly deteriorating.

For decades it sat abandoned, attracting photographers, explorers, and countless people who assumed its fate had already been sealed. Today, it stands as proof that even the most neglected places can have a second chance. If you’ve followed my page for any length of time, you know I love documenting forgotten places. The Eagle Cotton Mill remains one of the best examples I’ve ever seen of why preservation matters.

McKendree Methodist Episcopal Church
📍 Riverside Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio

Standing above the Ohio River since 1881, this abandoned church is one of the last reminders of old Fulton, a river town that existed long before it became part of Cincinnati.

The congregation itself dates back even further, with roots reaching into the 1830s. Over the years, the church watched the riverfront transform around it as railroads arrived, industries grew, neighborhoods changed, and even the street in front of it went from Eastern Avenue to Riverside Drive.

I really like the metal plaque on the front that's barely readable but I was able to see "Mckendree" to figure out what this was.

More than 140 years after it was built, the old church still overlooks the river, quietly holding onto a piece of Cincinnati history that many people drive past without ever noticing.

Have you ever noticed this? Know anything about it? Been inside? Tell me about it.
