MN State Fair - Monday Awards

I could never turn down the opportunity to get some fun photos during FFA weekend, especially when it involves the MN State FFA Officers or my own FFA chapter. Even as an alumni, I’ll always have a soft spot for FFA and love getting the chance to capture these moments!

Here are some of my favorites from Monday at the Minnesota State Fair!

Thank you to the Dakota County 4-H staff, parents, and kids for such a long but FUN week at the Dakota County Fair!

I wish I could have gotten this post out sooner, but I’ve officially learned my lesson: don’t schedule a work trip right after the fair!

Now that fair season is wrapped up, PLEASE check out my October availability and book up my calendar! Then stay tuned for May, when I’ll be starting another summer of photography fun!

Dakota County Fair Rabbit Agility

I had never attended rabbit agility before, but second to the horse show, this was definitely one of the shows with the best lighting and some fun action shots to capture.

And with that, we have officially reached the FINAL show of the Dakota County Fair! I can’t wait to share some stats on all the photos I took and the hours I put into this fair. Stay tuned!

Dakota County Fair Jackpot Sheep Show

Dakota County Fair invites people from outside the county to participate in the Jackpot Sheep Show, and it’s always a fun one!

One of my favorite parts is the beginner showmanship class for kids who have never shown a sheep. Every participant gets a sheep halter in hopes of getting them interested in the project!

They also have an adult showmanship class to help raise money for future years. I always participate, and for someone who has never shown a sheep before, I get to brag that I’ve made the Top 5!

Thank you to Liza Chamberlain for taking over my camera and photographing the adults while I was busy showing a sheep!

October Availability is OPEN!

I’m opening up my calendar for photo sessions October 13th–26th!

If there’s enough interest, I may open up additional dates in October or even into November. If you’ve been thinking about booking photos but these dates don’t work for you, reach out anyway! We can see what we can make work.

This will be my last round of photo sessions for the year until I start booking again in May 2027 — unless someone convinces me otherwise! 😂

So if you’ve been thinking about getting photos done,
get in while you can!

Dakota County Fair 4-H Horse Fun Show

Throughout the week, the horse show takes place at the same time as the livestock shows, so I’m usually busy photographing livestock and don’t get the chance to photograph the actual horse shows. Luckily, this year they put on a fun show, and I had a little availability in my schedule to sneak over and take some photos!

It wouldn’t be me or my camera if there wasn’t a horse in front of it!

I also have to say, I wish sometimes we could have an outdoor or covered arena for our livestock shows because look at this lighting! It makes such a difference!

Dakota County Fair Pig Show

From late nights to early mornings, the pig show is always an early one!

I may have been photographing pig shows since 2017, but I still find them to be one of the most difficult shows to photograph. There is always so much movement and so much going on in the ring!

This judge was so fun to have in the ring with me. He made sure every kid got seen and even made the senior showmen work by having them do a figure eight around some of the 4-H kids!

Dakota County Fair Beef Show

It was nice to have some time to take photos while everyone was fitting their cattle. Plus this year we saw a large increase in dairy beef numbers, especially with the crossbreds. Which you definitely can tell by the amount of photos from that show!

Unfortunately, I was busy taking senior photos with the Reserve Champion Breeding Heifer, so there were no showmanship photos taken during this show.

Dakota County Fair Lamb Lead

What’s better than a sheep show? Them being dressed up!

Lamb Lead is such a fun event, and I hope even more kids get involved with it because it’s such a great way to promote and support the sheep industry.These kids put so much work into their outfits and their lambs, and it was so fun getting to capture it all!
