For the first time, I'm stepping outside of my usual livestock photography and opening up the opportunity to capture some special memories for you and your loved ones with of course the rustic vibe in mind!

There are a lot of thankless jobs in the livestock industry, but some of the most overlooked people are the breeders and fitters standing behind you long before you ever step into that ring.

We get so caught up in the banners and the buckles. “I should’ve won.” “We should’ve been champion.” “I don’t agree with the judge.” We load the trailer disappointed because we didn’t get the handshake we wanted, and sometimes we completely forget about the people who helped us even have the opportunity to chase it.

When was the last time you thanked the breeder who spent years making breeding decisions, losing sleep during calving, lambing, kidding or farrowing season, feeding, cleaning, treating, and pouring money into livestock just to raise the one you’re holding the halter of?

When was the last time you thanked the fitter who answered the phone, helped you at home, believed in your animal, and then woke up at 2 AM to drive three hours, only to spend another two hours fitting for a class that might last ten minutes? The one who gives you everything they have at the backdrop whether you won the whole damn thing or walked out of the ring empty-handed. Then they pack their stuff, drive another three hours home, and do it all over again the next weekend.

They feel those losses too.

And sometimes they feel them even harder because they know how badly you wanted it.

If showing livestock was cheap, easy, and guaranteed to end with a banner, everybody would do it. But it’s not. That’s what makes the people willing to sacrifice alongside you that much more important.

A banner might have your name on it, but there are a hell of a lot of fingerprints on it.

Your breeder. Your fitter. Your parents. Your family. The people running the show. The people hauling the trailer, holding animals, washing, feeding, clipping, fitting, running for supplies, and standing ringside believing in you.

Nobody gets to the backdrop alone.

So maybe before posting about how you got robbed, questioning the judge, or talking about the banner you should have taken home, take a second to recognize the people who helped put you in the position to compete for it in the first place.

Because somebody bred that animal.

Somebody raised it.

Somebody believed in it.

Somebody fit it.

Somebody drove the miles.

Somebody sacrificed sleep, time with their family, money, and countless hours to stand in your corner.

And they did it knowing there was never a guarantee you’d win.

At the end of the day, the judge only sees what walks into the ring. They don’t see the years the breeder spent creating it, the hours the fitter spent preparing it, or the miles and sacrifices it took just to get there.

Winning deserves to be celebrated—but so do the people who helped give you the chance to win in the first place.

Thank your breeder. Thank your fitter. Thank your people.

“Doubt will kill more dreams than failure ever will.”

Read that again.

For the kids growing up in the livestock industry, it can be easy to doubt yourself. Maybe you’re just getting started. Maybe you’re surrounded by people with more experience. Maybe you’re wondering if your ideas are big enough, if you’re good enough, or if anyone will take you seriously.

Don’t let doubt make that decision for you.

When doubt starts asking, “What if it doesn’t work?” be willing to ask yourself, “What if it does?”

What if your idea becomes something bigger than you imagined? What if the connection you make opens a door? What if the risk you take leads you exactly where you’re meant to go?

Failure does not mean you are finished. Failure means you showed up, took a chance, and gave yourself the opportunity to learn. You may make mistakes, lose a sale, have a tough show, face rejection, or need to start over. That is all part of growing.

What matters is that you learn, adjust, get back up, and keep moving forward.

Stop waiting until you feel ready. Stop worrying about who understands your vision, who supports your goals, or who thinks you are crazy for chasing them. Not everyone will see where you are going, and that is okay.

Ask the question. Make the connection. Start the business. Take the opportunity. Walk through the door when it opens.

The livestock industry needs young people who are willing to work hard, keep learning, and believe they have something valuable to contribute.

You might fail. You might have to start over. You might have to prove yourself more than once.

But you will never know what you are capable of if you let doubt stop you before you begin.

So when doubt asks, “What if it doesn’t work?” remember to ask, “What if it does?”

Bet on yourself. Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep going. 🔥

As this year starts to wind down and plans begin to be made for next year, I’m excited to officially open my books for 2027! 📸

After spending 15 years in the show ring, livestock photography has been the perfect way for me to stay involved in an industry I’ve always been passionate about. Having that background gives me a unique perspective behind the camera and an understanding of the work that goes into every animal, every exhibitor, and every show.

Whether you’re looking for coverage for a livestock show, fair, event, or sale photos, I would love the opportunity to work with you in 2027!

🎡 THAT’S A WRAP ON AN AMAZING WEEK! 📸❤️

Queen Anne's County 4-H Fair was one for the books! From start to finish, I was surrounded by incredible people who made me feel welcomed, appreciated, and right at home. I’m beyond thankful for everyone who checked on me, helped me out, and made this week such a memorable experience!

The livestock shows were nothing short of exciting! 🔥 Watching exhibitors put in the work, walk into the ring with confidence, and share those special moments with their animals was such a privilege to capture. These are the memories that make all the early mornings, long days, and OVER 13,000 photos completely worth it! 📸🤯

A HUGE thank you to the Queen Anne’s County Fair for helping make FREE digital show photos available to exhibitors and their families! ❤️ Being able to give families the opportunity to download and keep these memories without worrying about the cost is something I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of.

To say I had an absolute blast would be an understatement!

From the moment I arrived, I was surrounded by some of the kindest, most welcoming, and genuinely heartfelt people. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of, and I truly can’t thank everyone enough for your hospitality.

And the livestock? 🔥 They definitely brought the heat! It was so much fun watching exhibitors step into the ring with excitement, determination, and pride. Being able to capture those moments and the memories made throughout the week is exactly why I love what I do.

A huge THANK YOU to the Frederick County Fair, Virginia for making it possible for FREE digital downloads to be available to every exhibitor and their families. That generosity allows these special moments to be shared and remembered for years to come.
