Couple of weeks ago, we made a weekend trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I captured this image of a black bear sitting down in the grass. The bear was taking a break from eating the spring grasses.

Black bears like the early spring grasses especially in meadows. The grasses help the bear's digestive system if the bear had been hibernating during the winter.

Looking forward to spring and having my bluebirds back in my yard at my feeders. I love to photograph bluebirds. When this image was taken back in 2023 in my backyard, I was working on getting images of the bluebirds in flight that year. This was probably the best image I got that year of a bluebird in flight. And of course, this image is cropped.

Ruby-throated hummingbirds beats their wings around 50 times a second when hovering. The family of hummingbirds are the birds capable of hovering for a lengthy span of time. Also, the ruby-throated hummingbirds are the sole breeding hummingbird in eastern North American. They generally spend their winters in Central America.

Photographed in my backyard habitat oasis this past summer.

I love photographing birds in flight. While at the black skimmer colony, I had lots of opportunities for flight shots.
Always love when the bird is calling or squawking when flying. This skimmer was starting to descend down to the colony of skimmers below giving it a little awkward position.

This black skimmer was photographed over this past summer when a colony of black skimmers tried to create a nesting site on a very human populated section of beach. Unfortunately, the skimmers abandoned that area of the beach way to soon for their eggs to hatch. The skimmers left their eggs that had already been laid behind on that section of beach. This colony of skimmers left the area and moved on. Hopefully, finding a quieter and better place to breed for this past season.
This area of the nesting skimmers on the beach were roped off and had signs by the rope area saying not to interfere or approach the nesting birds. But the signs did not say to keep a certain distance from this roped off area. So the loud noise of people hanging out on the beach right next to ropes and playing loud music. Some people were setting up their beach canopy along side the roped off area. This was just so unfortunate that people were not respecting these birds.
This made me very sad that these people did not care about these seabirds that were trying to bring another generation of black skimmers into the world. This is why I spend my time advocating for birds, wildlife, butterflies and our environment. There needs to be more awareness about birds and especially about nesting birds on beaches.
I did spend a lot of time out there this past summer observing and taking photographs of these birds and saw much of this human disturbance. However, I did capture a lot of great pictures of these skimmers from a respectful distance. I am just now starting to process these images and will be sharing more images.
Although it is late in the day, I still wanted to share this image and story on this . Hoping to bring more awareness to people about beach nesting birds and being respectful in ways that do not disturb the nesting birds.

While out on Caddo Lake in Texas photographing during a morning session, we discovered a pileated woodpecker. It spent a few minutes drumming on the section of the tree. I was able to capture few great images.

By the way, the pileated woodpecker is a new species for me. I never wood have guessed I would have seen or photographed a pileated woodpecker at Caddo Lake.
