Going through some hard times and pain in my life has taught me to slow down and notice things I would’ve walked right past before.
I never want to revisit that dark place, but I am thankful for how it opened my eyes to the simple moments and beauty that surround us every day. I realize how much I used to take for granted.
Last evening, on a walk with my wife, an ordinary field stopped me in my tracks. It did both of us. I mentioned to her while taking a photo how much I loved photography but I didn’t give further explanation. The sun was absolutely beautiful and casting a haze of warmth and golden rays onto a field of seed heads. We basked in the moment and it made me so thankful for her and the life we share. That empty field was our own little world and we were lost in bliss for a moment in time taking photos. It made me thankful to still be here and have the privilege of living these moments with her. There was something bittersweet about knowing it could’ve made me feel this way all along. I just hadn’t slowed down or been through enough in life to see it.
That’s part of the reason I picked up a camera. I want to capture and share the beauty we’re letting pass us by. The world keeps us in such a hurry that we forget to slow down, take a breath, and take in God’s beauty.
Thankful to be here. Thankful to finally see it.
