Why have I been keeping a bright pink shirt with a saying that doesn’t even relate to me ??? Because it was my mom’s. She loved this shirt - or at least that’s my memory and why I’ve kept it for 18 years in a box. I knew I would never wear it - I hate pink and chocolate isn’t my emotional eating choice ( jack in the box tacos are ) but I kept it and every few years I would take it out and look at it, smell it, hold it and think of my mom.

I love that now this photograph will hang in my living room, big, pink and loud, for my friends and family to see and talk about.

Henry’s beat up shoes. I’ve kept these for 2 years in my closet they have memories I wanted to keep close by and now I will have them forever.

These are the first shoes Henry picked out himself … seems insignificant but I was like are you sure … those ugly and expensive Jurassic world shoes … those ones ? Not these cute Adidas on sale ?? It was another simple sign he wasn’t a baby anymore

The second thing I love about these shoes is how destroyed they got from Henry braking on his balance bike. He loved to go so fast down the hills and drag his shoes behind him. I kept waiting for him to get his foot stuck and fly over the handlebars but he never did. Now he rides a pedal bike with breaks … another milestone

“My grandpa lived with us from when I was around 9 years old until I was 17. He didn't really talk about the war much but I was with him the day he died and he started talking about the men he was with in the war that day. I like the picture of him with the fishing pole because it shows a moment when he was trying to do something "normal" during a very non-normal time. I like the money because it showed all the places he went and also why it was called a "world" war. So many countries involved. The beer joint coupons make me think he used them to bet in a card game and won them- again something normal for guys to do- play cards and drink beer. “

My client had these items in ziplock bags in her closet - one of her girls even took the money to show and tell once.
I was honored to photograph these mementos and turn them into an heirloom that can be displayed, talked about, loved... and allows her grandpa to be present in her and her siblings homes.
