I’ve noticed something.
Thanksgiving isn’t something we were meant to do after we feel joy, though we can certainly do that. Thanksgiving is a posture we can choose that *opens our eyes to see* joy in the first place. Gratitude slows the soul enough to actually taste the goodness that’s been here the all along. Giving thanks pulls us out of the swirl of hurry (yes please!) and invites us back into the present- the place where God meets us. And that’s right where I want to be!
This adorable family was such a picture of that.
They live with an awareness of the goodness right in front of them. Mom and Dad who still look at each other like the high-school sweethearts they’ve always been, and who show up for their family with both strength and softness. Two big sisters who have their very own sweet personalities, yet mirror the same deep tenderness towards their all-boy baby brother.
A family that notices, and appreciates the small things. Sees the hard moments as opportunities, and treats them as gifts worth receiving.
When I’m with my ESP families, I get to inside gratitude itself… the kind that collects the ordinary moments and calls them holy, because they come from a holy God!
After all, it’s the counting of blessings that makes a heart feel full. And let me tell you. My heart is FULL!
