Help for the homeless
I have been collecting items for the homeless and making bags to distribute to them when I’m out and about, and as I do I am finding more and more needs, especially as it’s getting colder and colder I know where a lot of them are living. If you have any of these items I will personally come pick them up and get them to people who are living out in this cold every night. Or you can drop off to the studio gate box it’s locked but a good drop zone (2200 Standing Springs Rd. Greenville, SC 29605)
I will be putting together help bags as the items become available to deliver!
With temperatures down in the 20’s the next few nights I’d like to do this ASAP !!
Also if you’re IN NEED!!! Please comment so I can find you!
Immediate warmth/shelter*
- Heavy-duty tarps (not the flimsy blue ones—get contractor-grade)
- Sleeping bags rated for zero degrees or lower
- Insulated ground pads or foam mats (keeps cold from seeping up)
- Bivy sacks or emergency blankets that actually reflect heat
- Tents (even a cheap dome tent cuts windchill dramatically)
- Hand/foot warmers (the chemical ones, boxes of them)
- Thick wool socks (multiple pairs—feet stay wet)
- Insulated boots, waterproof if possible
*Clothing*
- Thermal base layers (top and bottom)
- Fleece or wool layers (not cotton—cotton kills in cold)
- Waterproof jackets and pants
- Hats that cover ears
- Gloves—multiple pairs because they get wet/lost
- Extra underwear (sounds small, but matters for dignity and warmth)
*Food/water*
- High-calorie, ready-to-eat stuff (trail mix, peanut butter, protein bars)
- Instant soups, ramen, oatmeal (if they have any way to heat water)
- Gift cards to fast food places (McDonald's coffee saves lives)
- Bottled water (it freezes—put near body at night)
- Thermoses (if they can get hot water, it stays liquid longer)
*Health/hygiene*
- Lip balm and heavy moisturizer (windburn is brutal)
- Sunscreen
- First aid supplies—especially blister care
- Feminine hygiene products (often completely overlooked)
- Baby wipes (cleaning hands/face without water)
- Trash bags (keeps gear dry, organizes stuff, actual sanitation)
- Toilet paper
*Tools/misc*
- Lighters, waterproof matches
- Flashlights and headlamps with extra batteries
- Multi-tools
- Backpacks or duffels to carry everything
- Phone chargers (portable battery packs)
- Cash (small bills—not everyone takes cards)
*What not to give*
- Don't donate expired canned goods they can't open without a can opener
- Don't give them stuff requiring cooking if they lack access to heat
- Avoid used underwear or socks with holes—dignity still matters
Please comment if you PM me so I can make sure I see it!!!
