I gave my testimony again yesterday. I will never stop telling people how good God’s love truly is. But God wanted me to give more than just a testimony. He wanted me to give a short message. I touched on it briefly but feel lead to share a more in depth look.
The word righteousness kept coming up during prayer time preparing for my testimony. And I read the following verse during the testimony-message. I added one more that I feel is important.
We live in a time when people simply do not want to hear the truth. They don’t want to be corrected. They don’t want to be told how they should or shouldn’t live. And they certainly don’t want to see Christians in a favorable light. Why? Because Satan has muddied the waters between good and evil. He has pulled the wool over their eyes, hardened their hearts, spun a web of lies, and deafened their ears so much so that they can’t understand God’s truth.
It doesn’t help that they see some Christians jumping on the bandwagon of attacking others verbally on social media. It doesn’t help that some Christians have the holier than thou art attitude. It doesn’t help that they see and hear so called Christians acting in a worldly manner. I’ve seen so much on the news lately of “Christian” celebrities having fallen hard from grace and finding out they were living double lives. All of it makes my heart ache.
I promise I’m getting to the point….
I scroll through facebook all of the time and see people being so ugly to one another. It’s like a verbal tirade on a school playground. I (and I think, we) feel the need to correct everyone. I want to prove my point. But God reminded me that isn’t my job. And He revealed to me something so powerful in a question. Would you rather be right or righteous? I should take the high road. It’s not about having to be right. By keeping our opinions to ourselves, we are being righteous. Rather, speak the truth of the gospel. Witness to others and pray for them. Don’t point fingers of blame. As the saying goes there will be four fingers pointed back at yourself. Stop being self righteous and be righteous.
As Christians we should always seek God’s truth in every situation. We should seek to do what is right in His truths. If we are Christians we are slaves of righteousness and will seek to always do what is right. Not be right, but to do what is right. In doing so we will find honor.
18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. (Romans 6:18 NKJV)
21 He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness, and honor. (Proverbs 21:21 NKJV)
