This batch of photos is from the start of the Phoenix area. When you get to the lake photos, this is where I figured out the lens was not mating correctly. I was holding the lens and smashing it into my eye to make it work. The second part it after it was repaired.

Enjoy.

Recently, Suzanne and I went to Bosque del Apache in New Mexico and then to Arizona. While at the Bosque, I noticed that my first days photos were blurry. Being that I was shooting with a 800mm lens handheld, I thought it was just me causing the problem. Shooting a 10.5 pound camera lens atached to a 4 pound camera body by hand requires skill and the odds were that I was the cause. Unfortunately, the problem did not resolve no matter how much I tried to shoot with a perfect technique.

When we were at a park in Arizona my camera lens suddenly stopped staying locked to the camera body. That’s when I found that the camera body’s lens attachment plate had become unscrewed from the camera body. It was only a half a millimeter off but it might as well have been a mile. The camera could never focus in this state. I repaired the body but most of the photos that I took were blurry and could not be salvaged. This has been a soul crushing experience. I have been able to get a few photos to be somewhat presentable and I will be posting them over the next few days. Some of these photos have taken hours in Photoshop to repair so it’s going to be a slow process.

Here are a few of them:

The Green-barred Woodpecker (Colaptes melanochloros) is a colorful species native to South America, found in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It prefers open woodlands, forest edges, and even gardens, adapting well to human presence. Unlike many woodpeckers, it spends much of its time on the ground, feeding mainly on ants and termites.

Its plumage features olive-green wings and a barred black-and-white underside, giving it a distinctive appearance. Males have a bright red crown, while females have darker heads. Instead of the typical tree drumming, this bird communicates through sharp calls.
